We would like to say a huge thank you to the Brynmawr Fire Crew who attended Parc Bryn Bach today to tackle a fire on Rhymney Hill.

The crew came directly from another incident in Merthyr and, after leaving us, were immediately called out to yet another emergency. Their dedication, professionalism and commitment to keeping our communities safe is truly remarkable.

We hope the cold drinks and food we provided will help keep you going through the rest of your shift. Thank you for everything you do. 🚒🔥👏

Wildfire Update | Llangynidr Reservoir

Firefighters from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have been working continuously since Friday, August 7th, to tackle a significant wildfire at Llangynidr Reservoir near Ebbw Vale.

The fire currently covers an estimated 400 hectares, with crews remaining on scene supported by specialist resources, including water bowsers, all-terrain vehicles, 4x4s, national resilience assets and a helicopter assisting operations.

Due to a change in wind direction today, smoke from the wildfire is now affecting areas including Blaenavon, Brynmawr, Pontypool and Newport.

Yesterday afternoon, crews from Tredegar and Treorchy, abertillery and Rhymeny, were back in Nantybwch to tackle remaining hot spots from the recent grass fire. Our teams worked together with local farmers with water carriers to bring the area back to safety and prevent further spread.

Crews will be reattending today to monitor the area due to warm weather.

Ddoe yn y prynhawn, dychwelodd criwiau o Dredegar, Treorci, Abertyleri a Rhymni i Nantybwch i fynd i'r afael â mannau poeth oedd yn weddill o'r tân glaswellt diweddar. Bu ein timau yn cydweithio â ffermwyr lleol oedd â thanciau dŵr i sicrhau diogelwch yr ardal ac atal y tân rhag lledaenu ymhellach.

Bydd criwiau'n dychwelyd heddiw i fonitro'r ardal, gan fod y tywydd cynnes yn dychwelyd.

Earlier today, Tredegar crews attended a small grass fire behind the mast on Manmoel Road. Using hose reels and digging strategic fire breaks, firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading.
With dry conditions, outdoor fires can spread rapidly. We kindly remind everyone to dispose of smoking materials responsibly and avoid open flames in grassy areas.

Yn gynharach heddiw, mynychodd criwiau o Dredegar dân glaswellt bach y tu ôl i'r mast ar Ffordd Manmoel. Gan ddefnyddio riliau pibellau a chreu bylchau tân strategol, llwyddodd y diffoddwyr tân i ddiffodd y tân ac atal ei ledaeniad.
Mewn tywydd sych, gall tanau awyr agored ledaenu'n gyflym. Hoffem atgoffa pawb i waredu deunyddiau ysmygu yn gyfrifol ac osgoi defnyddio fflamau agored mewn ardaloedd glaswelltog.

Smoke from wildfires can irritate your eyes, nose and throat, and may cause coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.

✅ Stay indoors and keep windows closed
✅ If you are travelling, keep your vehicle windows closed, and switch aircon to recirculation mode
✅ Keep inhalers and medication with you
☎️ If you have symptoms and they do not improve when inside, away from smoke or ash, ask for advice from your GP or NHS 111.

☀️🌊The temperature might be rising, but the open water is still cold.

Cold water shock can set in within minutes, affecting your breathing, movement, and ability to stay afloat.

It can happen to anyone, even strong swimmers, take care, enter the water slowly, and never underestimate the risks 🏊‍♂️
