🎄 Update on Treeton Christmas Lamppost Decorations

Treeton Parish Council has taken the difficult decision not to install the usual Christmas decorations on lampposts this year.

We know some residents will be disappointed, and we understand that the displays have been enjoyed by many people over the years.

A significant factor in this decision was the feedback and complaints received following last year's display, particularly around the quality, appearance and brightness of the lighting.

In addition, the number of lampposts available for Christmas decorations has been reduced. This would have a noticeable impact on the overall coverage and effect of the display across the village.

We are continuing to explore alternative options and remain committed to finding a way forward that brings a Christmas display back to Treeton that the village can be proud of. 🎄

A new monthly Book Swap is starting at the Reading Room, Treeton, on Thursday 1 October, 10am–12pm.

Bring along your pre-loved books to swap, enjoy a cuppa and have a chat. Everyone is welcome! ❤️

The Book Swap will then take place on the first Thursday of each month.

🚦 ENVIRONMENT AGENCY WORKS - TREETON LANE / MILL LANE

We have been advised of upcoming Environment Agency reinforcement works around Catcliffe Flash Nature Reserve, currently expected to begin on Monday 7 September and continue until November.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on Treeton Lane/Mill Lane to allow works vehicles to safely access the site.

🔹 Monday 7 September: Three-way traffic lights are expected to operate from 9:30am while the site cabins are delivered. The main disruption is expected to be limited to this morning.

🔹 Following this: The lights will normally remain on green, allowing traffic to flow as usual. They will only change to red temporarily when works vehicles need to enter or leave the site.

The arrangements will be monitored throughout the works to ensure the agreed traffic management measures are being followed.

Please allow a little extra time when travelling through the area, particularly on the first morning.

📢 Update on the Reopening of Treeton Lane

We received confirmation from Rotherham Council earlier this week that Treeton Lane / Mill Lane is expected to re-open around 19:00 today, Friday 28 August.

Yorkshire Water are currently carrying out the reinstatement of the carriageway ahead of the reopening.

With the weather having eased, we’re hopeful the planned reopening will go ahead as scheduled. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and keep residents updated if there are any changes to the arrangements.

🚨 Flood Alert for the Lower River Rother 🚨

Please be aware that there is currently a Flood Alert in place for the Lower River Rother, including the Treeton area, following recent rainfall.

River levels are being closely monitored and flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas and roads near the river.

Please remain vigilant, take care around the river and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.

🚧 MILL LANE ROADWORKS – LATEST UPDATE 🚧

Treeton Parish Council has been informed by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) of the latest position regarding the ongoing works on Mill Lane, Treeton.

The works are currently expected to be completed by Friday 28 August as planned. However, delays have been encountered due to asbestos pipes and damaged electrical cables being discovered during the works.

There is a possibility that works may need to continue over the Bank Holiday weekend and into Monday.

RMBC has advised:

The road will be reopened by Tuesday 1 September, ahead of the schools returning.

If the works are extended, signage will be updated to show the revised completion date.

RMBC will ask for discussions with SYMCA regarding bus services if an additional day is required.

The Streetworks Permit Team has been monitoring the works, including weekend visits, to ensure seven-day working is taking place.

A further progress report is expected next week.

We will share any further updates received from RMBC.
