A massive thank you to Phil, Damien and the amazing hardworking staff at McDonald's Trowbridge who we teamed up with to do a fair few hours of litter picking in Drynham and Longfield.

Thank you to Trowbridge Conservatives, Harry and Paul, for coming too! The ward is looking really clean and tidy now β€” just need to get the verges cut by next Tuesday!

Also great to see such a positive and healthy team spirit β€” great to hear of opportunities with apprenticeships and business degrees at this restaurant.

We go again tomorrow on Drynham Road (meet at the bend on Wiltshire Drive), although there might not be too much left to do thanks to these guys!

Our plan to tidy up Trowbridge is simple:

🟒 We'll invest in more litter bins around the town (with £40,000 being set aside already for the next 2 years);

🟒 Invest more into our TTC Neighbourhood Services department so that they have the resources to clean up the town with more litter picks, Graham Payne's road sweeper, the w**d ripper, and anything else that needs reporting;

And

🟒 We'll crack down and prosecute those fly-tippers who dump their rubbish down Drynham Lane and other parts of the ward.

It's time to do away with more of the same excuses, and bring in initiatives that focus on making your streets looking county-town worthy. It's time for action.

The question I often get asked the most by residents when I first meet them is "what have you actually done?" Admittedly, this question drives me everyday as I was elected in a by-election on 7th January 2020, so I've only had just over a year to prove my worth, before another election on the 6th May 2021, whereas other councillors have been on the council for decades. This has all happened during a pandemic too.

I always like to rephrase my answer to this question, as this is a joint effort and we wouldn't be able to do this without the support of residents, other councillors, our Wiltshire MPs, friends and family. So, I've outlined a list of the major main points of what we've done together, locally for Trowbridge in just a year with the graphic below. πŸ‘‡πŸ˜Š

I hope my election win on the 7th January 2020 will prove to be catalyst for electing new candidates, such as:
πŸ”΅ Emily Kirk for Paxcroft
πŸ”΅ Laurence for Lambrok
πŸ”΅ Daniel for Park
πŸ”΅ Ashton Rose for Drynham
πŸ”΅ Paul Jubbie for Central
(with more to come!)

And reelecting:
πŸ”΅ Cllr Tom Bazan for Lambrok
πŸ”΅ Cllr Edward Kirk for Adcroft
πŸ”΅ Cllr David Halik for Grove

This is the team to change Trowbridge and deliver for residents.

Based on the current Met Office forecast, the weather is due to be at zero or below for the next few days. Therefore, Wiltshire Council have trigged their Severe Weather Emergency Plan for rough sleepers.

All rough sleepers known to Wiltshire Council have already had an offer of accommodation previously and are reminded again that this help remains available with this service.

Tuesday evening is the most important town council meeting of the year. Once again, Trowbridge Town Council have proposed to increase the council tax precept.

This proposal will represent a 8.75% rise since I was elected back in January 2020. A year ago this month they increased the precept by 7.14%, but they want you to forget about this fact as this year they're increasing by 1.5%. Reason being, this is an Election Year. In order to do this, they've had to make huge cuts to services too. So effectively, you're having to pay more in tax but getting less for your money. How is that fair?

Villages such as Southwick, North Bradley and Hilperton benefit with financially competent leadership from their councillors. Trowbridge Town Council, meanwhile, continues to increase the council tax precept, hurting the ordinary hardworking Trowbridge resident. Just to rub salt in the wound, the villages can also access all of Trowbridge's services for free.

The villages can access:
πŸ”΄ Trowbridge Museum
πŸ”΄ Active Trowbridge (they even get a reduced rate and Holbrook doesn't even use Active Trowbridge!)
πŸ”΄ The Civic Centre

And soon...

🟒 The Doric Park 3G Football Pitch, being built in Hilperton Parish at zero cost to the Hilperton resident ― meanwhile, the Trowbridge taxpayer will be put in the firing line, if it all goes wrong, against their will with the council will be borrowing Β£2.2m to fund this project and increasing Trowbridge's debt even further.

Trowbridge's finances are out of control.
🏑 Hilperton Band D residents pay £14.28
🏑 North Bradley Band D residents pay £22.04
🏑 Southwick Band D residents pay £29.05

Meanwhile, Trowbridge, with this budget increase will pay:
🏠 £167.46

Rest assured, on Tuesday evening I will be voting with the ordinary hardworking Trowbridge taxpayer. I will be standing up for my residents and demanding change for Trowbridge.

Day #7 of supporting a local businesses (charity). Hope Nature Centre.

Chosen by Daniel for Park - Trowbridge.

I visited Hope Nature Centre on Sunday and it was lovely. They have loads of animals that you can buy food for and feed. There is several play areas for the children to burn off energy in and don't forget to vist the cafe that serves excellent food with delicious cakes!

For Christmas they currently have a Santa tractor train, that takes you to see the big man at his grotto.

They also have an excellent mission of helping those with special needs get into employment.

"OUR HISTORY

In the late 1990’s, parents of young adults with learning disabilities realised the difficulty presented by the absence of facilities and decided to form their own charity to provide a working occupation for their children and others like them. In 2000 a Charitable Limited Company was formed and went on to become a registered charity in the same year. It took six years of dedicated fundraising to start the project but on 27th May 2006 the Cafe was officially opened.

A year later the charity opened a small Animal Park, which had chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits and goats along with a miniature Shetland pony. The charity increased the number of animals and introduced children’s play areas and a calendar of special events, and soon welcomed over 700 visitors a week.

In 2017, The Hope Nature Centre approached Fairfield Farm College, a charity with similar objectives in working to support young people with learning disabilities, to formally merge to form a single charity. The merger took place on 1st October 2018 and operates under Fairfield Farm Trust and continues to provide training opportunities for young adults with learning difficulties. Incorporating both Fairfield Farm College and Hope Nature Centre, the Fairfield Farm Trust is registered under charity number 273924."

"It is estimated that up to 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability. In Wiltshire, young people with learning disabilities are taught at special needs schools and mainstream schools with special resources.

When they are 16 they can move to specialist colleges such as Fairfield Farm College in Dilton Marsh or other colleges with specialist facilities. Once they leave these specialist environments there is often nowhere locally where they can continue to learn the skills to work in a structured way. Yet, many people with a learning disability, with the right support, make a valuable contribution to your organisation."
