⚠️ We got babies! ⚠️

Please be careful coming in and out - we have some babies in residence on top of one of the pillars.

In case you didn't know, the reason we are called The Birdhouse is because we are a home for music, developed by local music scene duo Bird Is The Word. This Cracking Pair form 2/3 of the Directors of the business! The birds being here is just a pure coincidence...

We always wanted to make The Birdhouse a home but didn't expect that to be taken so literally! 😄

It has come to our attention that people have been handing over wildlife to strangers who are not qualified to deal with the animals in question!

We will make this crystal clear. We DON'T have any volunteers working for us. If people are claiming to be us, we know imitation is the biggest form of flattery but it's also endangering animals lives.

Please don't hand over to strangers claiming to be us.

Please don't hand over to people claiming they can help.

Please don't hand over to strangers full stop.

Please feel free to ask us for our identification so we can prove that we are the people you've contacted.

Apart from all the dehydration cases we have been dealing with multiple cases of 'have a go heroes' and it has sadly cost the animal their life because they've not received the right help straight away and we are left to pick up the pieces and work double time to keep everything running smoothly as possible.

Please remember it's only myself and mum. We will always do what we can to help.

Myself and mum are sorry for our lack of posts at the moment but as you can imagine we have had a lot of animals in, mainly with dehydration, so please leave water out for wildlife!

We had a lovely couple bring us an animal recently and they asked us something that we have never thought about. They asked for our bank details so they can make a monthly donation. If this is something you would like to do then we will pop our bank details on the end.

We are always accepting donations of bird seed, dried mealworms, wet/dry dog/cat food, webbox chubb roll, old towels, duvet covers, curtains, sheets, straw, sawdust etc. Unfortunately we can't take duvets or pillows but can advise taking them to your local recycling centre.

Unfortunately due to obtaining a rather nasty injury yesterday and falling through our decking (I literally hit the deck) I have a very nasty double subcutaneous hematoma on my left leg.

This means we cannot attend any callouts as it's a nasty injury I cannot be careless with 💔 but we are still here for advice and help if you're able to get the animal to us!

Please remember if there is visible blood, obvious break or lots of flies buzzing around the animal you have found, please do get them to a vet for immediate treatment. It is a myth that all vets pts immediately and it's a decision that isn't made lightly by anybody.

For any animals found after hours which is around the 6pm-7pm mark please contact Harris, Hill and Gibbons vets if Trowbridge based and Garston Vets - Frome if further out. For example Warminster based animals that have been found we suggest Garston as it's a 17 minute drive whereas to HHGV it's 23 minutes. That 6 minutes could make a huge difference to that animal 🩵

Please also call ahead to the vets first! They really appreciate being informed that injured wildlife is on route and they can get everything prepared and see who is available 🩵

We are deeply sorry for any major inconvenience this causes but these things happen!

We thought we would never ever be writing this...

Gaining access to the rescue via alternative motives is something we will not allow. Bringing an animal to us just to see how we work as a rescue is absolutely diabolical.

No, we have nothing to hide but when you hand us an animal showing no sympathy for the injuries or the fact they are orphaned and would rather snoop around cages when we are trying to explain what could possibly be wrong with the animal is rude and heartless. We explain if there is a slim chance of survival but then reassure saying we will do everything we possibly can to ensure the best outcome but sometimes it's just not that simple.

We don't have to allow people into OUR HOME but we do because that is the sort of people we are, a doorstep handover just seems shady and like we have something to hide. We are open as possible and like to show the finders that the animal they are handing to us has constant monitoring 24 hours a day.

When you disrespect the rescue, you are disrespecting our home and our privacy and the three years of hard work we have put into doing this.

Anybody who we feel is jeopardising our safety will be reported to the police given everything that has happened in the past.

We do not want to live in fear whilst helping wildlife, this is not how rescue works.

This also includes getting us to come out on rescues with ulterior motives to potentially cause us harm, we do not tolerate fake callouts and NEVER EVER use an injured animal as 'bait' to get us to come out. We are finding it more and more difficult to differentiate genuine rescues from the fake as it keeps happening.

As you can imagine we are absolutely fuming and at a loss for words with how manipulative and devious people are still being.

We are beyond sorry if we don't answer our phone at the moment or don't respond to messages straight away. This heatwave has been relentless on the wildlife and we have had so much in that we have had to make emergency accommodation and the strain myself and mum are feeling is unreal.

We never ever want a little life to suffer and we are trying our hardest between helping downed seagull chicks to hand rearing hedgehogs and pigeons galore.

If you cannot reach us but still wish to get an animal help please take them to a vet. We suggest Garston Vets (located on wingfield road). Now this is not us 'passing the issue' to someone else, we are genuinely overrun and these guys are beyond sympathetic and compassionate with any wildlife big or small, feathered or prickly.

With another four day heatwave on the way (8th of July start I think!) We need to keep ourselves and our current residents happy, healthy and comfortable so do bear with us and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued love and support. 💙🦔
