A drink driver who “showed a complete disregard for the safety of others” has been disqualified from driving for three years.

On April 24th this year, officers received a call regarding a suspect drink driver in Calne.

The driver – Timothy Baker, 55, of Wyke Road, Trowbridge – was subsequently stopped by officers on the A3102 at Westbrook after he had been seen straddling the central white lines.

He was breathalysed and blew 137 – well above the legal limit of 35.

Baker was arrested and taken into custody, where he refused to provide an evidential sample. He was subsequently charged with failing to provide.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and in a hearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (28/05), he was disqualified from driving for three years.

He was also given a 12-month community order, 120 hours of unpaid work, 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days, and required to pay a fine and court costs of £199.

Investigating officer PC Nicholas Dorey, based in Chippenham, said: “Mr Baker showed a complete disregard for safety of others.

“He turned up to work drunk, where he worked as a driver and was sent home.

“He then could have waited for his daughter who was coming to pick him up, but could not wait the two minutes and decided to drive a car home despite his state of intoxication.

“He provided a reading of nearly four times the legal limit when police stopped him.

“I hope today’s result shows what happens to those who are selfish enough to get behind the wheel after drinking.”

A man has been charged with drugs offences following successful warrants in Trowbridge.

On Thursday, two warrants were carried out simultaneously in Yerbury Street, Trowbridge, and around £20,000 worth of Class A drugs, including he**in, co***ne and crack co***ne, were seized.

Christopher Mounty, 43, of no fixed abode, was arrested and has since been charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

He appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (23/05) where he was remanded into custody ahead of a plea hearing at Salisbury Crown Court on 24th June.

Trowbridge Neighbourhood Sergeant Gemma Rutter said: “This was excellent collaborative work between the Trowbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Crime Task Force.

“This kind of activity wouldn’t be possible without intelligence from the community.

“Keep reporting information to us and we will not hesitate to take action.”

🚓🎉Trowbridge Neighbourhood Team Weekly Update🎉🚓

This week has been Sceptre for forces up and down the country.

Over the weekend PC 70046 Gilmour engaged with a knife carrier and his family to look at educational and preventative measures to curb this behaviour.

On Monday (18th) PCSO 6040 Wallace and PCSO 3697 Dentry attended Clarendon Academy to engage with students and dispel rumours around the false safety to a knife carrier.

On Tuesday (19th) Sgt 2315 Rutter attended the Safer Younger Persons meeting for Trowbridge. This is a meeting where partner agencies including schools attend to discuss young persons of concern to see how we can work together to divert them from crime. Later that day, PC 0395 Hannis and PC 70444 Tilley carried out hotspot patrols in locations where we experience high levels of reporting. No weapons were located on persons stopped and searched during these patrols.

On Thursday (21st) Inspector LEMON and PCSO 70485 Brain carried out a walk about town with members of Trowbridge Town Council to discuss ASB hotspot areas in the town centre and engagement with retailers. This was really helpful and will be shaping the team's focus over the coming month in regards to targets and long term problem solving.

In regards to business as usual for us, we had:

⚖️ Two youths issued with a community resolution after being stopped and searched by PC Hannis and PC Tilley - cannabis located on both. They will now complete a drug awareness course as a first strike.
⚖️ One adult female has been summonsed to court for aide and abet breach of a closure order at a residential address in Trowbridge.
⚖️ One adult female has been summonsed to court for breach of closure order.

We have recovered some and returned them to owners but if you have a bike on the road of driveway, check you have all the security provisions in place. A Trowbridge man has been jailed for six years after he was found guilty of r**e.

Andrew Hews, aged 38, of Frome Road, Trowbridge, appeared at Salisbury Crown Court on May 20.

The incident took place in Trowbridge - Hews filmed himself ra**ng the woman as she slept and showed her the footage following the incident.

Det Con Danielle Swanborough said: “Hews has shown no remorse for his actions, pleading not guilty and forcing his victim to relive her ordeal in court. He r**ed the woman and filmed his actions on his phone. I am pleased that he has been given a custodial sentence and a restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim and her children directly or indirectly for the next decade. I hope this provides them with some form of closure and the opportunity to move on with their lives.

“I’d like to praise the victim for her courage and bravery in reporting Hews’ actions to police and standing up in court to give evidence. I appreciate how difficult this must have been. I hope she has felt supportive through the process and I would urge anyone who has been sexually assaulted to contact police so we can ensure offenders are put before the courts.”

If you’ve been a victim of sexual assault, please call us on 101. If you’re not ready to talk to the police just yet, that’s OK.
