π’ SEND Reform in Wiltshire: 5 things families need to know
The Government is introducing changes to SEND support. In this short video, Cllr Jon Hubbard explains five key messages about what this could mean for children, young people and families in Wiltshire:
β
Support should start earlier
β
Support can begin without the need for a formal plan
β
Families will remain involved in decisions
β
Support can adapt as needs change
β
Services will work more closely together
The Government's SEND reforms are about working with families to shape local plans. That's why Wiltshire's SEND Reform Plan has been developed with families, schools and partners, and will be considered by Cabinet in September. Feedback from the Department for Education is expected later in the autumn.
Changes will be gradual, but the aim is to make support clearer, more joined-up and focused on helping children and young people get the right help at the right time. This is the start of a longer journey, and we'll continue to work with families, schools and partners as the reforms develop and evolve.
