📢 URGENT UPDATE: Trull Ridge Green Wedge Appeal 📢

Following last night's decision to invoke Rule 6 to fight the developer's appeal, Trull Parish Council is moving quickly—and we need your help!

Join the Working Group: We are forming an official Working Group to gather evidence and build a strong case ( this has to be different but compliment Somerset Council's). This is being led by Parish Councillor Glenn Gapper. If you want to contribute, please email him at: [email protected]

Tonight Trull Parish Council voted to invoke Rule 6 in order to fight against the Trull Ridge Green Wedge developer appeal.

We have a lot to do including raising a target of £27,000 through crowdfunding by the 5th of June. It's a challenge, but together we are strong and we believe, that with the support of the community, we can fight this development. 💪

There is a live planning application to remove a number of trees covered by TPOs (tree preservation orders) on the Honiton Road opposite the shops and entrance to Church Road. 🌳

The application number is: 42/26/0018 should you want to read more on the planning portal: https://www.somerset.gov.uk/planning-buildings-and-land/view-and-comment-on-a-planning-application/

Typically the Parish Council defers decisions about trees to Somerset Council's Tree Officer but we think this application is worth us flagging because of the sensitivity of the site.

According to the report on the portal, the trees in question are dead or at risk of falling. You can see their location on the enclosed image.

🚨 Reminder: Trull Ridge Green Wedge 🚨

A reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday 27th May at 19:15, there will be an Extraordinary Meeting of the Parish Council in the large room at the TCCC.

We need to decide if the Parish Council is in a position to seek legal support to oppose the appeal regarding the Trull Ridge Green Wedge.

Please come along if:

🌳 You are a supporter of the Green Wedge and want to protect our local green spaces.
🔮 You are interested in how this application—and future ones—might play out for our village.
💰 You want a say in how your money (parish funds) might be spent to fight cases like this.

Decisions like this shape the future of Trull, so community presence and input are incredibly valuable. We hope to see many of you there!

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 - 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 🌳

Ahead of our Extraordinary Meeting on Wednesday 27th May, we want to provide an update on the work taking place behind the scenes.

The core focus of this upcoming meeting is to decide if—and how—Trull Parish Council will engage Rule 6 status regarding the upcoming planning inquiry. It is a significant undertaking, and we are doing our due diligence to ensure we make the right choice for Trull.

🔍 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰:
👉Seeking Expert Guidance: We have been in close consultation with our industry body to ensure we are following best practices and understanding the full scope of our options.
👉Assessing Financial Costs: We are in active dialogue with a number of barristers. This is crucial for us to map out the potential legal costs and ensure we protect the parish’s finances.
👉Analysing Precedents: We are gathering and studying real-world examples of where other Parish Councils have both won and lost when taking on Rule 6.

🏛️ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠:
On Wednesday 27th May, the PC will lay out the "big picture" so we can collectively weigh our options. We will:

1. Outline the developer’s case so everyone is clear on what we are up against.
2. Talk through the legal examples (the wins and the losses) to realistically evaluate our chances of success.
3. Review the financial realities to see if independent legal action is something we can responsibly achieve.

⚖️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
Ultimately, the meeting will help us decide the best path forward. Do we have a chance of winning? Is it financially viable for the Parish? Or is this a case best left to Somerset Council to fight on our behalf?

We are committed to making an informed, strategic decision that serves the best interests of our village.

The Parish Council has called an Extraordinary Meeting of the Parish Council for *Wednesday 27th May 2026 at 19.15 in the Trull Church Community Centre.

This meeting concerns the planning appeal for Trull Ridge Green Wedge.

The Parish Council needs to decide if it wants to apply for Rule 6 Status which means hiring a legal team to make our case. A legal team comes at great financial cost.

While some Parish Councils have won similar cases using public crowdfunding, others have lost and faced further legal action from developers.

Ultimately, this involves public money. If you have an opinion on the Trull Ridge Green Wedge, we encourage you to attend the meeting.

The NHS has asked us to share potentially life‑saving information about the Spring COVID‑19 vaccination programme.

This spring, a COVID‑19 vaccine is being offered to people aged 75 and over, residents in care homes for older people, and those aged six months and over with a weakened immune system.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in the park for cake this morning! Not only did we raise funds for park tree maintenance, but we also loved chatting with so many of you about local planning.

What you’re telling us so far about the 'roundabout' development:

👍 The good news: Most people are really positive about how it could help slow down and manage traffic through the village.

🤔 The concerns: There are lots of questions and worries about how all the surrounding roads will connect without causing traffic headaches.
