Morning with me on are the “stop you in your tracks” fruit of Rehderodendron macrocarpum. This is an exceptional year for the amount of fruit and therefore seed it has produced.
The name Rehderodendron translates into:
Rehder named after Alfred Rehder a botanical taxonomist

dendron: A Greek word meaning “tree”

macrocarpum translated from Ancient Greek with macro meaning large

carpum meaning fruit…… large fruit.

“Rehder’s large-fruited tree”… simple.
Botanical/scientific names are so much earlier than the complicated “common names”!

Morning with me on is the stunning Schima wallichi var. khasiana one of our “Champion trees” (height of 20m/65 ish feet). In the Theaceae so related to Camellia. Lush dark green, glossy, evergreen leaves which gives off “tropical foliage” vibes. Large, creamy white, Camellia like sweetly scented “fried egg” like flowers. Unusual in the fact that branches have this years beautiful flowers with last years seed pods and occasionally even the previous years pods all at the same time! (Take a close look at photo 4).

Easily one of my favourite early autumn, creamy-white-scented, fried egg-like flowering, with last years seed pods, tropical foliage, evergreen trees…..

Hornets stripping the bark on our Rhododendron ‘Cornish Red’ on the south lawn. They look to be stripping the bark as building materials and drinking/feeding on the now exposed sap! Plus causing some damage!

Morning, with me on is the first day of autumn with a surprise we didn’t want! The large, very old Fig tree in the walled garden has succumbed to the recent wind! I haven’t got a planting date for it but there was a redesign with historic planting, the Wisteria being one of them, back in 1914. “Every cloud and all that” it didn’t cause any structural damage to the walls or features plus it has plenty of young shoots we can nurture for the future.

Morning with me on is Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Blaumeise’ (in the Teller Series) showing off its autumn glory while still displaying its late summer flowers. Love it.

(Ps. This is for my avid Hydrangea fans, you know who you are ….?)

Do you have naturally blue or naturally pink Hydrangea?
