We unanimously agreed at Ulverston Town Council this evening, to write to W&F council opposing the introduction of charges for green waste recycling bins. I spoke highlighting the problems that arise when barriers to recycling are put up, causing fly tipping or landfill to increase. Westmotland and Furness Councils moves to align the waste collection across the area could mean everyone has a worse deal than before the reorganisation, with reduced collections in Furness and added charges in former SLDC.

It has been such a huge honour being Mayor of a town I love so much, and a role I will miss immensely.

I was incredibly proud to see Graham elected at the Town Council AGM last night. The hours and dedication he's put into his role as Senior Lighthouse Keeper have delivered fantastic results, a new Monument vehicle and a brand new festival "Light up Hoad". I know that he will be a fantastic Mayor and ambassador for our town.

Your Labour Councillors are at the heart of your community. They have delivered backing for the Roxy collective, festivals, infrastructure and continually push for better services from Westmorland and Furness Council.

Your Labour councillors and candidates are leading the fight to save our Library. With rising population numbers, we need to expand our local services, infrastructure, policing, leisure facilities, doctors and dentists, not diminish them.

Voting Labour today sends a message to Rishi Sunak and his government that the country wants change.

A vote for your 3 Labour candidates in the Ulverston town council election today, and Labour's candidate for Police Fire and Crime Commissioner David Allen for Cumbria PFCC is a vote for the change we need.

Labour will put neighbourhood policing at the heart of Labour’s mission to take back our streets with commitments to guarantee regular town centre patrols and neighbourhood drug squads to go after local drug dealing gangs.
• This comes as research shows 50 per cent of the public say they never see an officer on the beat – up from 27 per cent when Labour left office in 2010.
• Neighbourhood policing should be the cornerstone of our approach to tackling crime and disorder. Yet under the Tories, it’s been utterly decimated, with 10,000 fewer officers on the streets.
• Labour will get police back out protecting our local communities, with guaranteed patrols in our town centres and new measures to tackle drug dealing gangs.
• Communities can only thrive when people feel safe. That’s why Labour will prioritise neighbourhood policing, with 13,000 more neighbourhood police and PCSOs back on the beat in our communities.

Michelle was pleased to get the opportunity to chat to a couple of officers recently during a high profile visit in Barrow town centre which required additional police presence. We welcome the day when high visibility patrols are the norm and not an exception

Very pleased to see that Westmorland and Furness Council have listened to our concerns on the sharp increase in car park fees.

Buxton Place has been amended to 70p for the 1st hour, and will come as very welcome news to local traders who had seen a drop in footfall after the increase.

Highways have confirmed that will soon start work to reinstate road markings in town, including the bus stop at County Square. I hope to see this bus stop reinstated by Stagecoach once the correct markings are in place.

Update on the flooding under the bridge at North Lonsdale Road -

W&F highways team have said the work required will now be carried out in a matter of days as an urgent issue, rather than weeks as initially proposed.

Last week I visited Next Ness to check out the finished work on the drains.

Residents contacted me last year, fed up with years of flooding in this area and constantly having to drive or wade through water. I reported it to Westmorland & Furness Council, and at town council we also agreed to write to them on this long standing issue.

I was very pleased to be contacted by a resident this morning to say the work is a success, last night's torrential rain was a good test!

I hope the similar issue we reported at North Lonsdale Road will soon be resolved too and drains will then be kept clean of silt.

Incredibly proud of our town and our senior lighthouse keeper, Cllr Graham Scrogham for delivering a fantastic new event "Light up Hoad" last night.
Great atmosphere on the hill, can't wait to see the drone footage!

It's taken far too long for these repairs to be done. 13 months on and the canopy still looks a mess.

At a Cumbria Better Connected meeting this afternoon, I was pleased to hear that funding has been signed off and delays are now down to planning. Westmorland and Furness Council have rightly asked for samples of materials to be used, prior to passing planning. This building is listed and part of our heritage so I'm pleased that it will soon be back to looking beautiful again.

After many conversations over the past 18 months, it's nice to see the weeds and growth on the train station canopy have now gone. The repairs to the clock tower should be complete and working again shortly. Further repairs are also scheduled for the canopy in the coming months.
