Alphabet Playgroup Undy

Alphabet Playgroup Undy Welcome to Alphabet Playgroup Undy. We are situated in the grounds of Undy Primary School. Children can join us from the age of 2.5 years old.

Alphabet Playgroup is predominantly an English-speaking playgroup, with incidental Welsh language used frequently during the session. At Alphabet Playgroup, we are committed to welcoming all children, irrespective of their race, colour, gender, or additional needs. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, happy, and secure environment for everyone. Alphabet Playgroup is situated within the grounds o

f Undy Primary School. Our regulatory body is the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), whose Regulations & Standards are adhered to by the playgroup. We are registered to take 19 children at each morning/lunch club, and afternoon session. We are a small team of experienced practitioners. As well as our Childcare, learning, and development training, we are also trained in

- Safeguarding
-Pediatric First Aid
-Food Hygiene
-Signalong

To keep our practice up to date, we access professional development training from our local authority and the EAS - Education Achievement Service. Session time
We begin our session with circle time, after which the children transition into free play. Children have the option to play indoors or, in our secure outdoor area, they enjoy access to sand, water, tabletop activities, block play, books, mark-making, trikes, and role-play areas. Towards the end of the session, we all get together for our daily dancing and mindfulness session, which transitions into our singing/story time. The children also have the opportunity to enjoy group time experiences and activities together. During the free play session, children have the opportunity to visit the snack cafe, where we provide a snack consisting of milk/water, fruit, and vegetables. We hold a Healthy Pre-School status, which was awarded to us by the local authority. We also have the highest Fair Trade award given to schools and settings. We are currently Fair Achievers. This award was given in recognition of the experiences and work put in by the children and team to introduce the meaning of Fair Trade. We are open Monday - Friday. Early drop off is from 8.30am (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)
Morning session runs from 9.00-11.15 am. Lunch club from 11.30-12.30pm (Including wraparound service to Undy Nursery). We have two afternoon sessions per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which run from 12:30-2:45 pm. Children can stay with us for a maximum of 4 hours. We are regulated by CIW and are ESTYN inspected. Please, we are so proud to attach below our latest joint inspection from Estyn and CIW.https://www.estyn.gov.wales/system/files/2022-01/Alphabet%2520Playgroup_1.pdf

Parents often notice the small things first. Understanding what they might mean can make all the difference for deaf children.

Deaf Awareness Week starts today. In the UK, many deaf children are not identified straight away, and the signs can be easy to miss or misunderstand:

• Not responding when called.
• Struggling to follow instructions.
• Seeming withdrawn or frustrated.

And sometimes, these are not seen as signs of deafness at all. The earlier a child is identified, the earlier they can get the vital support they need.

That’s why this week and beyond, we’ll be sharing some practical resources to help you spot the signs of deafness, communicate with confidence, and support deaf children at home, school or in your care 💜

Developmentally, perineal hygiene, or wiping completely after toileting, may be a skill achieved during a range of 4-6 years. This range is so wide due to the underlying skills, sensory considerations, motor skills, and cognitive growth needed for perineal hygiene.

The emergence of these skills takes time, but there are ways to support development of perineal hygiene. Check out these occupational therapy recommendations to support this area of development: https://www.theottoolbox.com/perineal-hygiene/

The reminders of Mother's Day start long before the day itself.

With cards in the shops and many businesses promoting offers, for those who find Mother's Day difficult, these reminders might evoke painful emotions. Whilst we can't always stop this, we can prioritise our self-care and choose what we engage with.

We can also be aware and supportive of people in our lives who may struggle.

If you find this time difficult, head to our website for some tips for coping with grief on Mother’s Day ⬇️
