On Saturday 17th October our wonderful Staff and Volunteer Team will be walking 15 miles in a day to 'Walk for Waverley Wheels'. A huge thanks to everyone who has sponsored and pledged money so far. Ahead of Centre for Ageing Better, International Day of Older People, which falls on 1st October each year. I'm making visits to various places to celebrate this special day, and honour older people in our community.

This morning I visited the Waverley - Caring in Kenilworth. They had a few activities organised, which I was able to participate in...spotlight on, 'this day in history' and a little quiz highlighting inspiring women from days gone by. These were thought provoking and conversation starters. A great way to keep the mind active.

Then a Q&A session about being the Mayor, all the guests tried the chain of office on for size, actually most of the staff did too...well why not, it's not everyday that the Mayor pops in with cake!

Kellie the Therapy Dog also did her rounds and spent time with all the clients, staff and volunteers, she is a lovely dog, very gentle and just what we all needed.

Today was about celebrating lives, stories, the wisdom, resilience and joy people bring to our daily lives.

This Year’s Theme is "What’s on Your Doorstep?"

This theme is about connection. It asks us to look at the people, places, and activities right around us.

Sometimes, as we grow older, our world can feel a little smaller. Our doorstep might mean just outside our room, in our lovely garden, or in the wonderful shared lounge.

But it also means the community and care that is given...friendly visitors, music sessions, shared cups of tea, and caring staff who feel like family.

A caring facility like Waverley, is a community built on connection. Every smile, every shared memory and every chat, keeps minds and spirits active and happy.

Waverley Day Centre is located at 65 Waverley Road, Kenilworth, CV8 1JL. They provide a service Tuesday to Friday, 50 weeks of the year (closed for 2 weeks at Christmas). Daytime social activities, including home cooked lunches, for older people in Kenilworth and surrounding areas. They also offer a home cooked two course lunch. These clients attend between the hours of 12pm and 1.30pm.

Tomorrow Positive Ageing Week begins and on 2nd October we have the International Day of Older People. Our brilliant Kenilworth Mayor Cllr. Alison Insley spent the morning with us to celebrate the joys and meaning of moving though later life. We really enjoyed cake from BrewQuest Coffee, celebrating great women in history and spending time with Kellie our therapy dog. Some of us got to imagine we were mayor for a minute! A lovely morning for all of us.

Join us at the Waverley Centre on Saturday 31st October for a chance to but delicious homemade cakes, bakes and jams. Enjoy a hot drink as you browse the table top sale, selling gifts and crafts with a spooky theme (It is Halloween!) We'll be putting funds raised towards our minibus fund.
