During April and the start of May was a busy time, and it was a pleasure to meet so many organisations, schools and charities. Here’s just a few of the visits I was able to attend:
Well done to the local teams competing in the Aylesbury & District Football League Cup Final with such passion, determination, and sportsmanship.
I was delighted to join in the Sri Lankan New Year celebrations, experience the vibrant traditions, performances and food with the Aylesbury Sahana Community. I also celebrated Holi with Aylesbury Hindu Temple CIO - AHT, a joyful and colourful celebration.
It was a joy to welcome the 12 Aylesbury Brownies to the Town Hall, speaking to them about the role of the Mayor and local government, their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions were impressive! Also, Turnfurlong Junior School – Foodbank Challenge Winners - congratulations to the students for their incredible fundraising and community spirit. At Oak Green School Aylesbury, I had the pleasure of attending their School Fete, a brilliant atmosphere with stalls and activities that brought everyone together to raise funds for the school.
I was honoured to attend the Showcase Silverstone event hosted by Nikki Ross, High Sheriff in Nomination for Buckinghamshire, and Miranda Wixon, Deputy Lieutenant for Northamptonshire, highlighting the launch of the STEM Pitstop outreach programme, which aims to inspire young people through learning and opportunities linked to the unique environment of Silverstone. It was encouraging to hear about the focus on inclusion, accessibility and creating opportunities for young people across Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire.
I also spent time with the Asian Elderly Group, hearing about their experiences and witnessing the friendship and warmth among the members was a wonderful highlight of my week.
On 8 May, I attended a moving Service of Remembrance for VE Day Commemorations in Market Square. I would like to thank the Royal British Legion (RBL) for organising such a poignant event. We paid tribute to those who served and sacrificed during the Second World War, ensuring their courage is never forgotten.
Congratulations to all those who took part in the WheelPower National Junior Sports Festival. I was delighted to attend meet some truly inspiring young athletes from across the UK. The event highlighted determination, resilience, and the incredible impact sport can have in building confidence and opportunity for young people.
Thank you to everyone who invited and welcomed me throughout the month. Every event highlighted the incredible community spirit that makes Aylesbury such a special place, and it continues to be a privilege to serve as your Mayor.
