MESSAGE FROM CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE COUNCIL
Recycling in Central Bedfordshire is about to get a whole lot easier .
From 30 March 2026, Central Bedfordshire residents will be able to recycle glass bottles and jars using their dry recycling bins/bags, and new weekly food waste collections for flats mean even more households can take part in recycling food waste.
This is a major step forward in making recycling easier and more consistent for residents in accordance with our Waste Strategy, which supports the Council's environmental ambitions.
These service improvements are in line with the national Simpler Recycling reforms introduced by the UK Government. The legislation requires councils to have weekly food waste collections for all households and ensure a consistent range of recyclable materials is collected from homes.
What this means for residents
From 30 March 2026:
? Glass bottles and jars can be recycled at home using existing dry recycling bins or sacks
? Weekly food waste collections will be introduced for residents living in flats, ensuring all households can recycle food waste
? Changes to some bin lorry routes will need to take place to increase capacity for the new recycling service. All affected households will receive a letter with plenty of notice and updated collection dates will be published on the council's website before the changes take effect.
Our website will provide all the relevant information, and will be kept up to date at
