Dear Friends of Greasby Library,

FOGL - IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE GOT TO THIS

Yes, this is the statement made by Paula Basnett, leader of the Council, 'It should never have got to this'.

FOGL Committee would like to thank everyone who attended the meeting at Wallasey Town Hall on Thursday evening, 18th September 2025 to witness an about turn by the Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee (TCC&LC). No Wirral libraries will close, this following a major decision by councillors rejecting plans to cut services. The top councillors in both Labour and Conservatives promised to never again make cuts to the library services as part of the budget. So Greasby, Rock Ferry, Seacombe, Leasowe and St James all saved for their Communities.

Yes, thanks to all the FOGL and everyone else in Greasby, Frankby and Irby including Councillors, Mark Skillicorn and Gail Jenkinson and David Fairbairn and Pensioners Alliance Wirral (Phil Simpson) who all signed and paraded the FOGL petition and completed the consultation document issued by the Council.

Special thanks to those who responded to our request for your experiences of using Greasby library. Those responses were anonymised and were shared with all the political players.

Kind regards,

Tony Parry

Dear Greasby Residents,

It has been suggested by one of the Friends' of Greasby Library supporters, David Fairbairn, that it would be good, in our fight to save Greasby Library, to gather people's experiences when visiting or using the library. So with this in mind could I ask all those that have an experience from their visit to Greasby Library to put these experiences onto paper. The proposal is to circulate these experiences, possibly into local newspapers, possibly onto Facebook, with the aim of showing to the Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee the importance and pleasure Greasby Library gives to the community.

Your experiences can be from the help given to you by the library staff, the location of the library and its ambiance to the selection of books, the facilities the library offers, etc. So please take a few minutes to respond to this email with your experiences in Greasby Library. You can email your comments to [email protected]

Personal identification will be removed from responses prior to them being used - unless you specifically state that you want your identification shared.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Tony Parry
