💔📚 What a loss. Dolly Parton was so much more than a legendary singer, songwriter, and entertainer. She was someone who understood the power of a story and made it her mission to put books into the hands of children.

In 1995, Dolly started the Imagination Library, inspired by her father, who never had the opportunity to learn to read and write. Today, the program sends a free, age appropriate book every month to registered children from birth through age five, regardless of their family’s income.

And what a beautiful legacy that is. She didn’t just tell stories. She helped make sure generations of children would have the opportunity to discover them.

If you have a little one under five, check to see if the Imagination Library is available in your area. It takes just a few minutes to register, and the books are completely free.

Thank you, Dolly, for giving so many children the gift of books and for leaving behind a legacy that will live on in the stories we read and the dreams they inspire. ❤️

Sad news to hear of the passing of the legendary Dolly Parton, known best as an incredible songwriter and country music star.

Since 1995, she has gifted books to Children across the world, knowing what a difference this can make to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
At least 120,000,000 children have benefitted from this scheme, receiving a new book every month.
What an incredible legacy.
(More of this sort of philanthropy please, world.)
