Clinical research plays a vital role in advancing medicine and improving patient care. Last Friday, we marked Red4Research Day, celebrating the people who make this possible – participants, clinicians, scientists, regulatory bodies, and our fantastic delivery staff.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a research-active organisation, offering patients opportunities to take part in clinical trials that provide access to innovative treatments and the potential to improve quality of life.

In recent months, our Research and Innovation team has continued to grow, expanding the Trust’s research portfolio and increasing the range of studies across a broad spectrum of health conditions.

We’re proud to have recently recruited the first UK participant to the ENDURA2 study, a medicinal trial for COPD, and to be progressing a number of other trials across haematology, breast cancer services, and paediatrics. We are also preparing to open a new stroke trial, ASPIRING.

To mark Estates and Facilities Day, we sat down with Keenan, one of our dedicated porters who has been part of the Trust for almost eight years, as part of our 60‑second series on the people behind our services.

From transporting patients safely across the hospital to supporting colleagues and responding to urgent calls, Keenan plays a vital role in keeping things running smoothly every day.

For him, it is all about teamwork and making a difference to patients’ experiences.

Resident doctors at Hillingdon Hospitals are due to take industrial action from 7am on Monday 15 June until 6.59am on Friday 19 June.

From September, knee surgery patients at Mount Vernon Hospital will benefit from a new surgical robot.

A team of three surgeons plan to initially perform 80 surgeries using the new technology and increase this number from March 2027.

This is expected to reduce length of stay and some patients are expected to be able to go home the same day as their procedure.
