FREE Caring For Carers Training

Self- Management Workshops for Carers

* Still Places Available*

Carers Wakefield & District are working in collaboration with the Recovery College to offer free self management training for carers. This training will enable carers to focus on your own health and wellbeing as a carer, as well as that of the person you care for, giving you the confidence and skills to make changes that will be of benefit to both of you.

This course will run over 4 weeks and will cover action plans, support available to you, considers the emotional pressures of being a carer and introduces various relaxation techniques.

Starts: Thursday 3rd September 2026, 1pm - 3pm
Lasts: 4 weeks
Venue: Space Station, 6 Denby Dale Road, Wakefield, WF1 1HR

Colleagues from Yorkshire and the Humber clinical network and West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership have come together to work on a National Dementia pilot and have produced some THINK DELIRIUM resources (link below)

Delirium is a condition where people have increased confusion, changes in thinking and a reduced attention span. Symptoms can develop quickly and often fluctuate during the day.

It can happen to anyone but there are some things that put a person at higher risk. These include older age, hearing and sight loss, a diagnosis of dementia, having multiple health problems, being in hospital with a broken hip or serious illness. Delirium is also known as ‘acute confusion’. It is treatable - but if it is undetected then it can be a life-threatening condition.

The NHS Long Term Plan makes a renewed commitment to improve and widen access to care for people needing mental health support.

Managing someone's affairs: How trusts can help

Share and Learn on trusts, including what they are, how they work and why they're important for managing someone's affairs. Exclusively for carers in West Yorkshire, the session will offer a comprehensive introduction to trusts and how they relate to your caring responsibilities.
The session will begin with an overview of Power of Attorney (POA) and how it relates to trusts, setting the scene for a deeper discussion on trusts and the role they can play in managing someone's affairs.

Did you know that we have a Men’s Group?

Carers Wakefield & District Men’s Group brings men together to enable them to speak about the topics that are important to them. The idea is that men can talk to one another about whatever they like, which provides them with the opportunity to have conversations about their caring roles. Speaking about situations can help get issues off their chest and allow them to express themselves and know that they are not alone. At times this can be challenging but with a group togetherness and other men in similar circumstances to themselves, this can provide support, advice and comfort. We also have fun activities that run throughout the year.

We currently meet on the last Friday of every month, 10:30am-12:00pm at Carers Wakefield and District, 25 King Street, Wakefield, WF1 2SR. Refreshments are provided.

Our next groups are: Friday August 28th and Friday 25th September
