This is such a sad story but all too common, please report anything like this immediately

In our new video Insp Hobbs tells the story of a West Yorkshire victim of financial control.

Many people think that domestic abuse only applies when there is physical violence between couples, but it can involve coercive and controlling behaviour such as financial control. It can also take place between family members such as sons, daughters or grandchildren.

News: Young people asked to help advise on policing and community safety

Young people between 13 and 21 years old are being invited to help advise the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner on policing and community safety.

Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), is seeking motivated young people from across West Yorkshire to join his Youth Advisory Group.

Members of the group have the opportunity to have a more active say, to express their views and opinions on local policing matters, communication campaigns, strategies and much more.

The group provides insights into policing and victim care as well as regular prospects to take part in new initiatives, enhance relationships between young people, the PCC and the Police. It also looks great on your CV!

What does it include?

. Meeting 4 times per year – usually on a Saturday morning, via Skype currently due to the pandemic, but normally across venues in West Yorkshire.

. Sharing their personal knowledge, opinions and experience of community issues within the group.

. Provide advice to us to help the PCC improve policing and make sure people are safer and feel safer.

. Take part in workshops and learn about key policing topics included in the Police and Crime Plan.

Mark Burns-Williamson, said: “The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) are very active and help to give me a unique perspective on how young people view policing and community safety more generally, and what issues directly affect them which in turn influences my decision making and plans

“To date they have helped me with my Police and Crime Plan, important consultations and advised on numerous policies and campaigns.

“In these uncertain times it is all the more important our young people have a voice. Their contribution is really valued and used in ways that can change what we do and deliver within our communities to young people and many others.”

Anyone interested in joining the group, or looking for more information, please contact [email protected] or visit our website.

What a great job! We take burglary very personally in our communities 👮‍♀️👮

Whilst on burglary reassurance patrols yesterday evening, PCSOSs 0081 Leahy and 718 Crossland were on Reevy road, Wibsey, when a emergency call came in for an ongoing burglary.

The PCSOs managed to place a containment on the property and heard a suspect inside, to this both PCSOs requested assistance, and detained the suspect at scene. The suspect was then arrested by NPT officer PC 4494 Teesdale.

The suspect has been charged and remanded into custody

Both PCSOs and Police Officers have training in giving crime prevention advice so please have a chat to them if you see them in your area and need some tips. Some other great ideas are on the web page below.

Home Security

There are many ways you can prevent your home being targeted by a burglar and it should be part of your daily routine. Making sure your property is secure doesn’t have to be too expensive or take up too much of your time – it may just be a case of getting into the habit of using the security you already have?

The best way to review your existing security is deal with it in three sections:
Perimeter
Shell
Interior

When looking at each of these aspects of your home do it as if you were the offender, what weak spots would you identify and how easy would it be for you to gain access to your property? The answers to these questions will assist you in prioritising any upgrades to your security.

Great to see community intelligence being put to good use, it's vital that our communities tell us about things that are affecting them so that we can deal with them. We can't take action like this from just one piece of information but we just bide our time for positive outcomes!👮👮‍♀️😁

On the odd occasions our trainers are not involved in a training course, they go out to all of the different districts to ensure that the training reflects what is happening & current on the streets. For the last 2 days one of the PCSO trainers has been out with West Yorkshire Police – Wakefield City and North West, yesterday she started the day with a scene guard that required a lot of willpower! 👮‍♀️👮🥯🍰🍪

My daughter came today on a school visit and I’d like to thank everyone that spoke to them and took time out of their day to show the children around . My daughter has not stopped talking about her visit since we came home .She has loved every single bit of the afternoon , especially the horses , the dogs , seeing the police officers in training and the best bit ...sitting in the helicopter! She has soaked up every bit of information that was given to her and has made me search the Internet for more facts about being a police officer .Thankyou so much .She has enjoyed it that much she wants to be a police officer when she grows up .
