🚧 Our teams continue to carry out highway improvement works across the district. This includes:
- Carriageway resurfacing in South Kirkby, Sandal and Ossett
- Removing vegetation and trees in Featherstone, Hemsworth and Upton
- Footway improvements, including patching, and repainting benches and bollards

📍 From resurfacing roads and repairing drainage to maintaining footpaths, a wide range of work takes place across the district each month to help keep our highways network in good condition. These improvements help to make journeys safer and avoid bigger repairs in the future.

There’s still time to help shape the future of housing in Wakefield district

Did you know that dumping rubbish around Bring Sites is flytipping?
Bring Sites are local recycling facilities for certain pre-sorted household waste. You'll find them across the district, often outside supermarkets and sports centres.

As part of Flytipping Fortnight, we're reminding residents about the impact of leaving waste beside Bring Site containers.
Clearing flytipping takes time, resources and money, all of which could be spent on other essential services.

If a container is full, please visit another Bring Site rather than leaving waste on the ground. Overflowing rubbish can make sites look untidy and create hazards for others.
There are also other ways to get rid of extra waste, including using a Household Waste Recycling Centre or booking a bulky waste collection.

Don’t miss this chance to bring culture, creativity and heritage to your local area.

If you’re a community group, charity, CIC, or other VCSE in the Wakefield district, you can apply for a grant to bring your project to life.

Small Culture Grants of up to £1,500 are available to support creative or heritage events and activities in your community.

Discover how funding can support your project. Join a free online introduction session:

• Monday 26 October: 12 - 1pm
• Thursday 29 October: 6 - 7pm

Are you getting rid of rubbish? Did you know you could be held responsible if your rubbish gets dumped illegally without a valid waste carrier licence.

Whether you're disposing of waste yourself or paying someone else to do it for you, it's essential to check a registered waste carrier license is used.

Flytipping is a blight on our communities, damages our countryside and costs the council money to clear up.

As part of Flytipping Fortnight, we’re highlighting the work our enforcement officers do alongside the police to investigate offences, carry out checks and take action against those responsible.
