The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for extreme heat for Wednesday and Thursday this week. Please stay safe.

Don’t enter open water. There may be hidden hazards beneath the surface, and cold temperatures can cause cold water shock. 🚫

If you see someone in trouble, don’t go in after them. You could both be at risk.

- PHONE 999 immediately
- Tell them to FLOAT on their back
- THROW something that can help them stay afloat.

Planning a trip to one of our parks? Please remember:

- Barbecues are not allowed due to the increased risk of fire.
- Use the bins provided or take any extra rubbish home with you.

As part of Shared Lives week, we shared Joanne, Calvin and Sean's story with the Shared Lives Plus Community.

Joanne and Calvin are Shared Lives carers in the Wakefield District who care for Sean. He lives with them as they open their home and help him to become more independent.

Shared Lives is a bit like fostering, but for adults with additional support needs. You can read their full story at the link in the post below.

Shout about Shared Lives during Shared Lives Week 2026!

Sean lives with Shared Lives carers Joanne and Calvin, supported by Council Shared Lives scheme, and together they've built something truly special. With the support of his Shared Lives family, Sean enjoys an active, independent life filled with the things he loves – from gym sessions and countryside walks to cinema trips, holidays and spending time with his fiancée.

"I feel safe and comfortable at their house," says Sean. "I like the freedom to come and go as I please and the support they offer if I need it." For Joanne and Calvin, being Shared Lives carers is all about helping someone live life on their own terms while being part of a caring and supportive family environment.

Please help us this Shared Lives Week by telling one person about Shared Lives. The more people who know about it, the more lives we can change together.
