Time of the year Summer Holidays are upon us, but you can play your part in creating awareness of the dangers of the ponds in the parks.
This poster was used by British Coal to create awareness of the dangers of Slurry Ponds on the colliery pit spoils heaps but now the danger of the colliery Pit Top buildings and shafts have now been long gone and has now been created into Nature Parks, but the dangers as in July 1990 are still with us.
During the Summer Holiday you will have to play your part to ensure our children “Stay Safe”

Surprising what you can get from conversation every week in Morrisons. Coming up to August and holiday time for the pit ponies 1959 when the Old Roundwood Colliery pit ponies came to the surface for their once a year run around in a green field. Theses pics brought to light by a retired fireman who started his working life in the Coalmine. Enjoy the way it used to be.

How time passes it does not seem too long since we had the gathering in Walton Club. But the numbers get smaller, the only thing left is the Banners High’ parade in Wakefield. Walton Colliery was a place of work for all the surrounding area although there were Pits near there homes Walton Pit was one of the most modern at the time until Kellingley was put onto drawing board.
Sorry for the remembrance of the disaster of 10 East delay they all must be remembered as time passes by.

Minecars carried cola out of the Mine, brought to the surface and emptied through the base of the minecar. This system was found to be expensive so the tippler system was developed and used. The Boiler House was in line with the mine shafts producing steam power to drive the 2 Winding Engines. Bring back the memories of steam generation
