Hello Lovely People

Please note that the orchard is now moving to Winter opening times 8.30AM until 5.00PM.

This is in agreement with Leeds City Council Parks and Countryside.

Any breaches or failures to comply would put in jeopardy the months and MONTHS of hard work and persistence to keep the orchard accessible for everybody.

We hope you'll agree this is a VERY small price to pay to make sure that the community is able to maintain access to the orchard all the year round.

I was informed today that a family were seen stripping the large plum tree of fruit in the orchard, using a rake and a tree post to beat the branches. They left with bin bags full of plums.

This is a community orchard, meant to be shared and respected by everyone. Damaging the trees and taking such an excessive amount of fruit is completely unacceptable. It goes without saying that this kind of behaviour - driven by greed, not need - harms the space for everyone.

If this was you, please show some basic decency and stop. The orchard is here for the benefit of all.

Please help yourself to some plums from the orchard. These were all picked from the tall branches that couldn't be reached from the ground, to stop them from rotting on the tree. Big thanks to Brenda Ainscough and Aly Durnan for their help!

** 𝐃𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞. During Summer we're keeping the gates open longer so more people who are working also get a chance to take a stroll - and hopefully it's a bit cooler at either end of the day for people who have dogs 🐾


** 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 ... Much of the orchard and garden has been neglected, for different reasons, over the years. We're hoping to put this right and if you'd like join us on the volunteer list, drop us an email so we can add you to the list. You don't need any experience - we're all learning as we go and EVERYBODY'S welcome.

** 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞! And also be mindful that it's quite easy to damage the trees if you pull too hard on the limbs. Pick rather than pull. At this stage we need to coax and nurture the trees back to health so please be kind to them and they'll feed us for years to come.
