Rough Sleeper Support Service

Today we completed a large scale sweep of the district as part of our Snapshot Rough sleeping annual count. From rural corners to central town areas, we tried to cover as many locations as possible.

This marks one of the most significant events in our annual calendar and takes a great deal of planning and preparation.
Our approach means we will now seek further intelligence from many agencies to include anyone we may have missed on the physical sweep.

We would like to say a special thanks to Cap Care Wakefield, The Saviour Trust and Community Cabin Foundation for joining us on outreach very early this morning.

It is really is a team effort from all involvement. ❤️

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
This morning, we were out supporting the Rough Sleeper Support Service, searching across the Wakefield district for people who are sleeping rough.

Our aim is to connect with people who are experiencing homelessness and help them into safe accommodation as quickly and smoothly as possible, while making sure they receive the support they need.

We are so very proud to work alongside CAP.
The rough sleeper team attend several times a week alongside many other agencies.
CAP not only provides us with a base to see people where they feel comfortable, but also enables a multiagency approach to finding solutions to individual needs.
Those facing homelessness deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, CAP provides a sanctuary for this every single day.

More than 100 people a day rely on a Wakefield city day centre that provides hot meals and clothing for homeless and disadvantaged people

Did you know…. Once we have located those sleeping rough, we are usually able to make them
an immediate offer of emergency accommodation.
This is however only the first step in their journey to stable accommodation.
Referrals for support to many other agencies often follow from substance misuse to employment support.
Helping an individual to achieve their goals is a multi agency approach.
No story is the same ❤️

Having a safe place to store your worldly belongings can be a real concern for those rough
sleeping. Individuals sometimes are required to choose which items to leave behind each day in order to attend appointments, seek food or simply go to the toilet. Items they leave behind risk getting stollen, damaged or soaking wet through.

Once customers are into our emergency accommodation offer, we are able to provide a small amount of storage to enable them to go about their day much easier without this additional worry.

We started the week off with outreach with our friends at Informal Learning Ltd. Staff are able to meet customers on the street and encourage them directly into accommodation. ❤️

Outreach today was with The Saviour Trust: We spotted this location whilst heading to
another. The Team all have a keen eye and pick up in the smallest of details that might indicate someone may need our help.
