One of our experienced Leeds Special Constables was out on patrol with a new Special Constable in Harehills Leeds, when they spotted a taxi driver pulling out in front of them using his mobile phone.

Upon sight of our officers, the taxi driver threw his mobile on the floor. He then began fumbling around to pick it up, nearly crashing into the police patrol car.

He was directed to pull over. Our student officer approached him to discuss the offence. The taxi driver began shouting abuse at the student officer. Our experienced officer approached the driver and booked him for using a mobile phone whilst driving, driving without due care and attention, driving without being in proper control of a vehicle and for driving with 3 illegal tyres.

The driver was summonsed to court where he received a 3 year driving ban, lost his taxi license and fined £1492.

Roads Policing Unit Specials stopped a vehicle on the M62 near Brighouse which was linked to a persistent disqualified driver.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver initially attempted to provide false details before providing the correct information and confirming he was disqualified and had no insurance.

Officers interviewed the driver, seized the vehicle and completed the case file. The registered keeper of the vehicle who was also present at the time of the stop, admitted under caution to permitting the disqualified driver to drive the vehicle and was reported for use/cause/permit.

Both will appear in court.

It transpired that it was stolen from Greater Manchester yesterday. The vehicle was recovered for forensic examination.

The below van was stopped on the M62 Junction 25. The vehicle was being driven without insurance and by a disqualified driver, driver reported. The owner of the van was also reported for use/cause/permit.

Intoxicated driver arrested by Roads Policing Specials.

Roads Policing Unit Specials were dispatched to reports of a potential OPL driver on the M62 Eastbound near Junction 28.

Alongside Roads Policing colleagues, the subject vehicle was stopped on Dewsbury Road at Tingley and the driver, who
was heavily intoxicated, failed to provide a sample of breath at the roadside.

The driver was arrested by RPU Specials and again failed to provide a sample of breath for analysis in custody.

RPU Specials completed the case file and the driver later appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court where he was found guilty and disqualified from driving for 24 months, fined £400 and ordered to pay costs of £85 alongside a £160 victim surcharge.

Officers from Leeds District have carried out a large-scale arrest operation targeting individuals wanted for domestic abuse and child abuse offences.

Operation Dombridge saw local Neighbourhood Policing Teams working in collaboration with Leeds Special Constables to arrest a total of 30 offenders during proactive operations on 21 May and 10 June. Those arrested were subsequently interviewed by specially trained detectives, with a number remanded into custody.

Acting Detective Inspector Tom Littlewood, from Leeds District Safeguarding, said: “This operation has targeted offenders suspected of causing some of the greatest harm in our communities.

“Protecting children and tackling Violence Against Women and Girls remain key priorities for the Force and we are committed to safeguarding vulnerable victims and bringing offenders to justice.

“We continue to encourage victims to come forward and report abuse, safe in the knowledge that all reports will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.”

16 people were arrested during yesterday’s part of the operation. Following interview, two men were charged with breach of a restraining order and have been remanded in custody to appear at court this morning. Of the rest arrested, 11 others were released on bail, one was released under investigation and two were released facing no further action.
