This is the hardest post I think I've ever had to write.sadly I have had to make the decision to close the rescue. It's been an amazing 5 years and I've met some truly wonderful people but also seen the worst of people. Between us we have saved so many hedgehogs. I say we because I wouldn't have been able to do it without your support so thank you. This is breaking my heart but there are many factors to why I have made this decision but the main one is my health, it has got significantly worse and I seriously struggle on a daily basis. This does not affect the hogs that are here now as the majority of them can be released in the next few days. I do have some hoglets that will stay until they are big and strong and ready for release but I won't be taking anymore in. Once again I am so so sorry, I feel incredibly guilty but I just can't physically carry on. Once again thank you so so much for your support. 💔💔

This gorgeous big boy was brought in this morning from RAF Benson, quite literally at deaths door. He got caught up in a goal net. The finders cut off as much of it as they could and acted swiftly in getting him here. There was a strip wrapped so tightly around his neck that his lips and tongue were blue and swollen and his tongue protruding from his mouth. If he had been left another hour he would have been dead. He will stay here under observation for the next 7 days or so as it can take that long for any constriction injuries to show. If you have children's goal nets could you please put them up at the end of the day and if you have netting that you can't move for any reason then please make sure there is a big enough gap underneath for a hedgehog to be able to pass safely through. If you do find a hog caught in netting please don't let it go after releasing it, take it to a rescue as it will need to be checked and observed.

As always donations greatfully received for the care of these cuties that get themselves into so much trouble!

This is one of those upsetting posts but I feel posting about the bad is as important if not more so (if it helps more hogs)than the feel good stories!
This poor, beautiful soul was found in Fraser Gardens in Wallingford yesterday. This was the collapsed state that she was found it. Her finder rushed her here. You can see in the first pic that she has flystrike all around her mouth and inside her mouth was full of them. As you can see she was severely dehydrated and emaciated. I removed the flystrike and got her warmed up and administered fluids, I stayed up with her but sadly and not unsurprisingly she passed away just after midnight. Please please leave bowls of water out where ever you can, even if its out in your street and of course bowls of dry cat food for them.

You will have to excuse me as I'm quite cross about this one. Thankfully my son was in the right place at the right time! He had just left our house to come and meet me to help with shopping, as he was walking down our street he heard what sounded like 2 dogs fighting. Well they were, fighting over a poor hedgehog. One of the them had dragged her out of her nest amongst bushes and the owner had no control, luckily my son got closer to look and saw the poor hog in one of the dogs mouth, he got the hog away from the dog. As you can see she is covered in blood but I can't find any major wounds on her so think its the dogs blood, she is lucky her stomach wasn't ripped apart as it was covered in dog slobber. She is incredibly traumatised and clamped down on my thumb. She is currently resting in the quiet and I will check on her again shortly.
This is not a dog hating post, i love dogs ,as those that know me or have dropped hogs here know that I have a German shepherd. He is amazing around the hogs and knows to keep well away and leave them and that has taken training and will always be ongoing training. It is possible to train your dogs and if you can't then keep them on leads please. I have a suspicion the poor hog is possibly pregnant aswell

I really do have my begging cap in hand right now and quite literally pleading for any amount that you can give. This beautiful little girl has come in from Benson. She is around 3 to 4 weeks old. I've named her sunshine as she is enough to brighten anyones day.she has had subcut fluids and took straight away to a syringe feeding of milk. She has either been attacked by an animal/bird or head trauma. As you can see her eye is dead and popped out and sitting on the surface, she also has a wound next to the eye. Her breathing is also quite raspy. She will need the eye removing but can go on to live a normal healthy hedgehog life. Every hedgehog that comes in needs treatment of some sort so all cost money and obviously worth all cost and all the hard work so please if you can spare anything at all myself and the hogs, especially little miss sunshine, would hugely appreciate it. Thank you ❤️

Another in this morning, found on the kinecroft near Agatha!! A gorgeous female, named Borisetta by her finder. She is very unsteady and possible problem with right front leg, she has also had a near miss with a Strimmer at some point judging by the quills on her head.
As always donations greatfully received and very much needed now as it's very busy season with lots of meds and all the 100's of things that keep the rescue going. I honestly can't keep doing what I do without all of you so thank you for your continued support. Any amount keeps us ticking over ❤️❤️

2 in so far today. 1 huge guy (1st pic)who got completely caught up in netting, finder did manage to remove it but the hog will remain here for a week as it cab take that long for any skin damage to show.
The 2nd in is a beautiful female,(2nd 2 pics) named Audrey, she is in a very bad way. Extremely dehydrated and malnourished. She has had subcut fluids and in the incubator. She will be syringe fed very small amounts and subcut fluids through out the next 24 hours.

As always I am so so grateful to you all for your support. Any donations are always hugely appreciate (and I hate asking for them!!!)

Meet Walter. He was seen by waitrose earlier today and rushed here by the lovely Tracey. He is incredibly thin and extremely dehydrated, he has had subcut fluids and is now resting in the incubator. I will know more once he produces a P**p but at the moment he isn't interested in food. If he still hasn't eaten by this evening I will start syringe feeding him.
