Museum preserving the remains of the Roman fort at Wallsend which defended the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall. Marking the eastern end of Hadrian’s Wall at Wallsend, Segedunum Roman Fort & Museum is one of the most fully excavated fort sites anywhere in the Roman Empire. Once home to 600 Roman soldiers who guarded the frontier against barbarian attack for almost 300 years, the site features the rem
ains of the original Roman fort, an interactive museum, and full-scale reconstructions of a bath house (currently externally viewed only) and a section of Wall. The 35 metre high viewing tower provides outstanding views across this UNESCO World Heritage Site and the River Tyne, in a place of great historical significance, both ancient and contemporary. Our current opening hours are 10am-5pm, daily. Please see our website for events and exhibitions information. www.segednumromanfort.org.uk
