𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 – 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐲

Cllr Ashfaq Ahmed alongside community activist Shakir Hussain met with former Cllr Shakila Hussain, to discuss the long-standing issue of street lighting on the public walkway off Bell Lane, connecting Bell Lane to Cherry Tree Avenue, adjacent to the green.

Shakila Hussain shared details of the work she had previously undertaken on this matter, including a petition submitted by local residents. She has now passed this case on to Cllr Ashfaq Ahmed and community activist Shakir Hussain, who will take the lead in progressing this important issue.

Cllr Ashfaq Ahmed and community activist Shakir Hussain will now liaise with Sandwell Council regarding the section leading towards Cherry Tree Avenue and will also engage with Walsall Council to explore how street lighting can be installed to improve safety for everyone using the walkway.

Shakila Hussain also expressed her appreciation for the work that community activist Shakir Hussain and Cllr Ashfaq Ahmed are carrying out within the community. She has said she is pleased to work alongside them on future community projects, bringing together experience and local knowledge for the benefit of residents.

By working together across council boundaries and building on the work already undertaken, we hope to secure a positive outcome for this project and continue delivering improvements for our communities.

Site visits like these help ensure local issues are seen first-hand, discussed with the right decision-makers, and followed up with 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. We will continue working positively and constructively to make Palfrey & The Delves a cleaner and safer place for everyone.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫

It was wonderful to see people from all backgrounds coming together to enjoy good food, great conversations and a real sense of community at Caldmore Community Garden.

Events like these remind us that we have far more in common than the things that divide us. Building friendships, supporting one another and celebrating our diverse community is what makes our area so special.

I was delighted to attend alongside 𝐈𝐦𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝, and it was great to meet so many local residents and community organisations.

A big 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 for making the day such a welcoming and enjoyable occasion. Your hard work and kindness are greatly appreciated.

⚽ 𝐀 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐣𝐢𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭!

𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐬𝐡𝐟𝐚𝐪 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝 attended alongside 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐫 𝐇𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐧, 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐲 & 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐭 and 𝐈𝐦𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝(Volunteered as one of the referees) to support this fantastic community event at Bescot Stadium.

It was inspiring to see 𝟏𝟔 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 from across Walsall take part in a day of football, teamwork and friendly competition. More importantly, the tournament brought young people together in a positive environment, encouraging healthy lifestyles, respect, sportsmanship and community spirit.

A special thank you goes to 𝐇𝐚𝐟𝐢𝐳 𝐈𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥, 𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐞𝐞𝐯𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐣𝐢𝐝 𝐀𝐥-𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐪 for organising this fantastic tournament and bringing together 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐣𝐢𝐝𝐬 and 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 from across Walsall. Their hard work, dedication and commitment helped make the event such a great success.

A special thank you goes to all the organisers, volunteers, coaches, referees and supporters whose hard work made the event possible. Community-led initiatives like this provide positive opportunities for our young people and show what can be achieved when people come together for the benefit of the next generation.

Congratulations to all the players who took part, and to the winning teams. Every participant should be proud of their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the day.

If you regularly walk through Walsall Arboretum or the Country Park, please remain vigilant, avoid isolated areas where possible, and consider walking with others, particularly if you’re out alone.

We are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted at Walsall Arboretum.

The incident took place at around 4pm on Tuesday (23 June).

The woman was walking along a trail path in between Walsall Country Park and Walsall Arboretum when she was assaulted.

The suspect is described as being an older man, around 5ft 8ins tall, white, slim and with a slight pink tan tone.

He’s described as having yellowy/brown teeth, blue eyes and had deep smile lines around his mouth. He also had short grey hair which was patchy as well as a short grey beard.

The suspect is understood to have been wearing a t-shirt with a round neck, long trousers and a light-weight jacket.

Officers have completed a full area search over recent days and have supported the women to get a full account of what happened and obtain the description of the suspect.

We have specially trained officers supporting her as our enquiries continue.

We understand how concerning incidents of this nature can be and we’re working tirelessly on the investigation.

We are appealing for witnesses to come forward and we’re particularly keen to hear from people who may have been in the location at the same time and who may have mobile footage to please contact us.

Our Road Safety Team, in partnership with National Highways and West Midlands Police, is hosting a ‘Driving Safer for Longer’ session for drivers aged 60+.

The session covers how changes to eyesight, reaction time and decision-making can affect driving, with practical advice to help you stay confident and safe on the road.

We know that driving is an important part of staying independent, and we’re here to support you to keep moving safely. 💜
