Last Saturday, the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress of Walsall attended St Peter's Church Wolverhampton for a special service of hope and remembrance for su***de prevention.

On World Mental Health Day (10 October), a special service took place in nearby and provided an opportunity to pause, reflect, and remember those we have lost. It served as a reminder that there is always space for conversation, connection and support.

Last week, it was an absolute delight to visit The New Art Gallery Walsall for a tour of Tereza Buskova's powerful exhibition, Mothers without Hands.

Curated by Dr Nicola Baird, this incredible long-term project brought together diverse communities across Folkestone, Prague, Brno, Erdington, and Walsall through creative workshops and public processions to raise crucial awareness of violence against women and girls.

It was wonderful to meet Tereza and the inspiring women of the Aaina Community Hub at the New Art Gallery Walsall.

Her work brilliantly brings together multi-national folk traditions with local voices, and it has been fantastic to see so many visitors from across our borough come out to support it.

A big thank you to the team at the gallery for the warm invitation and if you haven't seen the exhibition yet, be sure to pop down to the gallery before it closes! 🎨✨

A huge thank you to everyone who attended Monday morning's British Citizenship ceremony at the Town Hall. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome our newest British citizens on such a special occasion.

Citizenship ceremonies are always filled with pride, excitement, and a celebration of service, and most of all having a true sense of belonging.

On behalf of the Mayoress and I, and the people of Walsall, I extend my warmest welcome and gratitude for the positive contributions you make to our local communities and for choosing to call Walsall your home.

To all who took the oath of allegiance to the King today, we formally welcome you and look forward to seeing all your future successes.

It was lovely to join the Macmillan Coffee Morning at Sutton Coldfield Golf Club recently, with members coming together to enjoy a coffee and support a very worthwhile cause.

It was a pleasure to see so many people getting involved and helping to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, which provides vital support to people and families affected by cancer.

My thanks go to everyone who helped organise the morning and to all those who supported the fundraiser. Every contribution helps make a difference.

It was great to welcome the team from PhareX to the Mayor’s Parlour recently and hear more about the work they are doing to support international students, graduates and their families in Walsall.

PhareX was founded by students and graduates and uses their own experiences to help others navigate life in the UK, with support around integration, employment, opportunities and connecting people with trusted local services.

We had a good conversation about their work in Walsall before I showed the team around the Mayor’s Parlour and Council Chamber.

Thank you to the PhareX team for taking the time to visit and share more about the work they are doing in our borough.

Yesterday was a truly proud day for me as Mayor as I officially opened our brand-new Armed Forces Drop-in hub right here in Walsall.

Meeting with serving personnel, veterans, Reservists, and their families, alongside the Leader and Deputy Leader of Walsall, Councillors including our Armed Forces Champion Cllr Pete Sutton and our amazing partners like Stepway CIO, really brought home how much this community means to us.

We want to create a safe, welcoming, and accessible space where anyone who has served, including their loved ones, can walk in and get real, practical advice and support without any fuss. Whether it's guidance on housing, employment or just connecting with the right people, you deserve a network that’s there for you right on our doorstep.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life. It’s an absolute honour to support those who have given so much for our country. 🤝

A trip down memory lane at Aldridge Transport Museum earlier this week!

It was a real pleasure to spend time with the museum's dedicated volunteers and explore the fascinating transport history they work so hard to preserve. The collection offers a wonderful glimpse into the region's rich heritage and the evolution of public transport over the decades.

Highlights of my visit included sitting in the cab of Tracline Metrobus 8110 and seeing the impressive Birmingham Leyland PD2 2222 up close.

A huge thank you to everyone at the museum for the warm welcome and hospitality. Their passion, knowledge and commitment made the visit a truly memorable experience.

It was a pleasure to visit the Paget De Vasey Company of Archers last Saturday at their archery course and training facility.

The club offers opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to take part in archery, including children, senior citizens and those with disabilities. It was wonderful to see such an inclusive organisation supporting both beginners and national champions alike.

It was also great to meet the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood, Little John, and Maid Marian, who helped make the visit even more memorable.

On Monday 7 September, 2026, I had the honour of joining the brilliant students and staff at Grace Academy Darlaston to cut the ribbon on their brand-new, dedicated Sixth Form facility.

Grace Academy has delivered fantastic results for years, and this investment gives our young people the modern, dedicated space they truly deserve. This modern, tailored space of their own ensures they can thrive across their full 7-year journey in both academic and vocational studies.

I enjoyed chatting with the enthusiastic students, taking their sharp questions about public service, and sharing a few laughs along the way. Seeing their bright smiles and pride in their new space made it an unforgettable day to serve as your Mayor.

It was an honour to open a celebration event and cut the cake for Bloxwich Launchpad’s first birthday!

I had the opportunity to speak with residents, businesses, partners and stakeholders about the positive impact that Bloxwich Launchpad has had throughout its first 12 months. It’s great to see how many people have gained skills, built confidence and accessed opportunities thanks to the support available at the centre.

In its first year, Bloxwich Launchpad has supported over 1,000 residents, delivered more than 9,300 hours of personalised support and engaged with 230 businesses and enterprises. The centre now has 465 registered members.

This first year has shown what is possible, but this is only the beginning and I look forward to seeing even more local people gaining skills and confidence, more businesses starting and growing, and more opportunities being created in Bloxwich.
