Join us for a fascinating guided Fungi Walk around Chasewater Country Park and discover the amazing variety of fungi growing in our local country park this autumn!

During this friendly and informative walk, you'll:
-Explore the diverse range of fungi found in the local area
-Learn how to identify different species and recognise their key features
-Discover the important role fungi play in supporting healthy woodland habitats and ecosystems
-Gain a better understanding of fungi ecology and their relationship with the natural environment

Important Information
✅ Suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear recommended
✅ Dogs welcome if kept under close control
✅ Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult
✅ Some sections of the route may include rough or uneven terrain

🎄 Calling all craft makers, creators and independent producers! A few stalls are still available!

There's still time to join our Christmas Makers Market at Chasewater Innovation Centre, Pool Lane, Burntwood, Staffordshire.

📅 Saturday 5 December 2026
⏰ 10:00am – 3:00pm
💷 £10 per stall

If you create handmade crafts, artwork, jewellery, gifts, homewares or artisan food products, we'd love to hear from you.

🎄 This festive event is a great opportunity to showcase your products, meet local shoppers and be part of a welcoming Christmas market atmosphere.

Spaces are limited, and the remaining stalls will be allocated to help create a varied and enjoyable shopping experience for our visitors.

All stallholders will be required to provide a copy of their Public Liability Insurance and a risk assessment relating to their stall and products.

🚫 Do not approach or touch the deer 🚫

After some recent reports, from our team at Chasewater. We are asking all visitors, at Chasewater and Cannock Chase, not to approach or touch the deer! 🦌🚫

These are wild animals. They can be highly unpredictable, especially the stags and bucks, during rutting season!

Please follow the rules below:

💥 Do not touch or approach wildlife.
💥 Keep at least 50 metres away from deer, at all times.
💥 Keep dogs on leads, around deer and other wildlife.
💥 If deer are on the paths, turn around or wait for it to move.

🦌 The rut is starting at some of our country parks 🦌

We ask all visitors to keep their distance, keep dogs on leads and use zoom lens for photography 📸

Both stags and bucks are full of testosterone at this time of year, which could cause problems for visitors and dogs getting to close 🚫

Want to learn more about the deer rut? 🦌🌿🐾

At Cannock Chase we are running several guided deer rutting walks, designed for visitors and wildlife 🦌
Our expert ranger team will talk you through deer conservation, the rutting behaviours, how to observe them safely and if we are lucky...we may even get to see the bucks sparring (video below) 🦌🌿

The guided deer walks will run on the following dates:

💥 17th October (8am - 10am)
💥 18th October (8am - 10am)
💥 24th October (8am - 10am)

Places are capped to 20 people for each date. £10.00 per person.

Join us this autumn for the enchanting Moonlight Gathering Story Trail, running from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November, daily from 10am to 3pm.

Follow the magical story through the park, enjoy the beautiful autumn scenery, and discover the wonders of nature along the way.

✨ The trail is completely FREE to enjoy!

We have already been seeing large amounts of people taking quantities of mushrooms/fungi, from our country parks🍄

Whilst foraging is allowed on certain areas, most of our country parks or large areas are SSSIs, SACs or conservation areas. This means that foraging here is strictly prohibited under several laws, including:

💥Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006
💥Theft Act 1968 (Section on Fungi)
💥Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981

Anyone suspected of large-scale plant/fungi collection from our sites will be reported to the police.

We are all visitors to our country parks, so please respect our wildlife and green spaces, so the next visitor can also see the beauty 🍄🌳🌿🦌

💙 A Community of Hope Exhibition at Chasewater Innovation Centre 💙

We're proud to be hosting "A Community of Hope", an inspiring exhibition created by Stand By Me, a self-funded men's mental health support group based in the Cannock Chase area.

Stand By Me provides a relaxed, welcoming space where men can come together for a brew, a chat, a laugh and, when needed, support. There is no pressure to talk and no judgement, just people who care and are willing to listen.

Alongside their weekly support group, Stand By Me organises activities, social events and community projects that help reduce isolation and encourage positive conversations around mental health.

Their powerful "A Community of Hope" exhibition uses art, creativity and real-life stories to raise awareness of mental health and su***de, helping to start important conversations throughout our communities.

No judgement. No pressure. No promises to fix everything. Just listening, caring and being there. 💙

The exhibition is now on display at Chasewater Innovation Centre. Why not call in and take a look?

If you have been walking around Cannock Chase in the last week or so you may have noticed these machines 🚜

These are softrak 120 heather cutters. These machines are working their way around the chase, cutting patches of heather to ground level.

This is done because a great deal of the healthland wildlife needs a mix of 'aged' heather. So some old, long growth, and some short stubble growth.

For example nightjars like long, old growth heather to nest in, along with stonechats. The shorter, younger heather benefits adders, common lizards and slow worms, as they get better access to sunlight to bask! 🐍🦎

This operation takes place over a week or so, in September, after bird nesting season. The machines are also quite loud, causing vibrations which adders and other reptiles sense, so they move away.

The softrak cutters also spread their weight, using specialised tracks, to not cause substantial damage to the ground. Their cutters are set to a around 4 inches above ground level, meaning that (in the unlikely event a reptile wonders underneath), the cutters miss any wildlife.
