Waltham Abbey Town Council would like to say a huge thank you to Epping Forest District Council for the funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, helping to restore the historic King Harold Memorial and pathway.

We would also like to give special thanks to Paul Violet, Chair of the Waltham Abbey Town Partnership. Incorporating 'Waltham Abbey Together'. & Honorary Freeman of Waltham Abbey, for driving this project forward and helping make it happen.

We would also like to thank our Mayor of Waltham Abbey Cllr Andrew Crowley who is a member of the Waltham Abbey Town Partnership, for his guidance throughout.

A fantastic example of partnership working, preserving an important part of Waltham Abbey’s heritage for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.

And a big thank you to Bob Sharman Photography for the fantastic photos of the King Harold memorial.

The historic King Harold Memorial and pathway in the grounds of Waltham Abbey Church have been restored thanks to local partnership funding.

The Waltham Abbey Town Partnership was granted over £4,000 from our UK Shared Prosperity funds to restore and improve the famous memorial and pathway leading to it.

The Memorial commemorates King Harold’s historic connection to Waltham Abbey. It is traditionally recognised as his final resting place following his death at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. A life-size statue of King Harold stands guard over the churchyard of Waltham Abbey.
