🎉 Today we’re celebrating Hujan’s 9th birthday! 🎉

Hujan is a male Bornean orang-utan born at Krefeld Zoo on 01/06/2017. When his mother fell ill and was unable to care for him, he needed round-the-clock support.

In 2019, Hujan arrived at Monkey World, where he now spends his days in the orang-utan nursery alongside his adopted brothers and sisters.

He is a calm, gentle individual who is especially wonderful with the younger orang-utans🧡

We’re celebrating today with a special collection of photos showing Hujan through the years from his early days, to the calm and gentle young orang-utan he is today. It’s been wonderful to look back and see how far he has come.

Happy Birthday, Hujan! 🎂

📸 Send in your favourite photos of Hujan from his time here at Monkey World! 🧡

🦧 Tuan our majestic male Bornean orang-utan!

Tuan arrived at Monkey World in 2002 after being found wandering the streets of Taichung City, Taiwan. It took three days to safely capture him! Sadly, like so many orang-utans, Tuan was likely smuggled from the wild as a baby and kept illegally as a pet before his escape.

Today, Tuan enjoys a safe and loving home at Monkey World, where his incredible story helps shine a light on the devastating illegal wildlife trade. ❤️🌿

Heres Freddy..

Found wandering alone in a park in Austria, Freddy was likely once kept as a pet before being abandoned when he became too difficult to manage. He arrived at Monkey World in 1995 with very limited social skills and needed time to adapt to life with other chimpanzees.

Today, Freddy has settled into the bachelor group, where he has found his place as a low-ranking but valued member of the group 💚

🧡 Lucky is a female orang-utan. She was cruelly smuggled from the wilds of Borneo for the illegal pet trade in Taiwan, before being confiscated by the Taiwanese authorities from an amusement arcade in Kaohsiung County.

In 2001, Lucky finally found safety and a new beginning at Monkey World.

Despite her difficult past, Lucky has grown into a quiet yet feisty character. She enjoys the company of males and younger orang-utans far more than other females, and her strong personality always shines through. 🦧✨

Every rescue has a story, and Lucky’s reminds us why protecting great apes from the illegal wildlife trade is so important.

🐒 Meet Elvira, one of our cheeky capuchins! ❤️

Elvira lives in one of our separate mixed-sex capuchin groups here at the park. Most of these monkeys were rescued from a laboratory in Chile in 2008, where they had been used for biomedical and pharmaceutical research. Others came to us after being rescued from the British and European pet trade.

Now, thanks to the dedication of our primate care team, they can enjoy the safe, enriched lives they deserve. 🌿
