During recent speed checks conducted on High Street near the village hall in Chapmanslade (02/06/26), eight vehicles were recorded exceeding the 30mph speed limit.

The highest speed detected was 40mph.

Weather conditions on the day were mixed, with periods of sunshine and showers, and the roads were damp.

Subject to individual driving history and any previous offences, all eight drivers will be offered the opportunity to attend a speed awareness course.

Appropriate follow-up action will now be taken to ensure the most suitable outcome for each offence.

Be safe. Drive smart. Watch your speed.

๐Ÿšœ Agricultural GPS Thefts โ€“ Remain Vigilant ๐Ÿšœ

Wiltshire Police is urging the rural community to stay alert following reports of agricultural GPS thefts in neighbouring counties.

Op Walrus is a nationwide initiative led by the National Rural Crime Unit, targeting organised crime groups stealing high-value GPS equipment, displays and receivers from tractors and combine harvesters.

To help protect your equipment, please take the following precautions:

โœ… Remove GPS units from tractors when not in use and store them securely
โœ… Activate PIN security using a unique code
โœ… Mark your GPS equipment (e.g. postcode marking or forensic kits)
โœ… Record serial numbers and photograph your kit
โœ… Store machinery securely and lock all gates overnight
โœ… Use forensic marking kits to identify your devices
โœ… Report any suspicious activity around farmland

Taking these simple steps can significantly reduce the risk of theft and improve chances of recovery.

๐Ÿ“ž Report rural crime:

Call 101 or report online at ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://orlo.uk/F9bDP

You can also report anonymously via Crimestoppers.

๐Ÿšจ Always call 999 if a crime is in progress.

Letโ€™s work together to protect our rural communities.

Two people have been charged following a theft in Warminster town centre.

During the afternoon yesterday (20/5), Warminster Town CCTV made us aware of a shoplifting incident in Peacocks, Three Horseshoes Walk, involving a group of people who had left the scene in a vehicle which officers located in B&M car park.

The vehicle was unoccupied but following information provided to officers, three people were arrested inside McDonalds on suspicion of theft.

Stolen items worth approximately ยฃ160 were recovered from the vehicle and returned to store.

Britney Barney, 25, of Ripon Road, Bournemouth, and Doreen Johnson, 51, of Viscount Walk, Poole, have been charged with theft and are due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates Court on August 11.

One youth has been dealt with by way of an out of court disposal.

Sgt Lyndsey Smith said: โ€œThis was good partnership collaboration between Warminster Neighbourhood Policing Team and Warminster Town CCTV.โ€

During a recent speed check on Bidden Lane (B390) in Chitterne (19/05/26), 7 vehicles were found to be travelling over the 30mph limit.

The speed limit is clearly signed as you enter the village, but the fastest vehicle was recorded at 47mph.

On the day, the weather was overcast and windy, and the road surface was slightly damp. When traffic was lighter and drivers werenโ€™t being alerted to the speed check, speeds noticeably increased.

Weโ€™d also like to remind everyone that flashing headlights to warn others about speed checks is illegal and doesnโ€™t help improve road safety. Those who regularly speed will continue to do so unless challenged.

As a result:

- 5 drivers will be offered a speed awareness course
- 2 drivers will receive a fine and points

Be safe. Drive smart. Watch your speed.
