reposted by request, the (in)famous paddling pool in Warrenpoint park. Built in 1973 at a cost of £2800 (which is about £44,000 in todays money) for children to have a paddle in a "safe" environment (as the swimming pool was closed and being converted into a boating pool) it somehow survived into the early 1990's and was still making headlines due to no water being in it on hot days.
Anyone who used it back then will have been well versed in looking for the nearest first aid kit before going near it for all sorts of reasons. This of course predated the "nanny state" back in the days when common sense prevailed and kids were not stupid enough to need signs such as "no diving" in a pool that had (at most) a foot of water in it 🤣
