Been asked to pay an upfront fee to receive a delivery, get a loan or claim a prize?

Always and ask yourself – could it be fake?

It’s OK to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.

If you have visited a website you think is suspicious you can report it to the National Cyber Security Centre using their online reporting form.

⚠️ Sextortion is a form of online blackmail where offenders use real or fake intimate images or videos to threaten victims into sending money or more content.

It is the number one cybercrime reported to The Cyber Helpline and disproportionately affects young people. Men are most impacted, particularly those aged 18–24 (41%) and 25–39 (33%).

It can have a profound impact on victims:
“I feel incredibly vulnerable right now and embarrassed that I was so easily led by somebody who is usually very careful and doesn't take unnecessary risks. My mental health was badly affected for the first few days and I'm still struggling to bring my confidence back up.🛡️

🔒 Anyone can become a victim of cybercrime. It does not discriminate by age, background, or technical ability.

Some groups, including older adults and people facing emotional or financial challenges, may be more frequently targeted by cybercriminals. These scams succeed because of highly sophisticated and convincing tactics, not because someone is naive.

⚠️ Fear of stigma or embarrassment can also prevent victims from seeking help or reporting incidents, increasing their vulnerability.

By raising awareness and encouraging open conversations, we can help people stay informed, supported, and protected online. 💻
