We hope that you are all excited and ready for tonight’s Mop Fair in Warwick!

To make sure we can deter anyone we believe may be spoiling the fun for everyone else away from the fair, we are implementing a temporary Section 34 dispersal order from 5pm this evening (16 October).

This will be in place until 4am on Sunday 18 October and will allow us to take stronger action against people committing antisocial behaviour, ordering them to move away from the area or be arrested.

The areas affected will be those on the map below.

Our officers will be out and about throughout – if you need us, come and have a chat, we’re always happy to help.

Our officers took action against a prolific shoplifter who targeted shops in Warwick and Leamington, stealing a total of £1,500 of products.

All of the thefts were caught on shop CCTV, which the Business Crime Team analysed and used to identify Williams in all the clips before carrying out an arrest.

John Williams, 36, has been jailed for 26 weeks for 15 counts of theft from a shop.

Williams pleaded guilty at Coventry Magistrates Court on 30 September.

He has also been given a Criminal Behaviour Order, which will last for five years.

This CBO says that Williams is not allowed to attend any Sainsburys or Marks and Spencers in Warwickshire, or the BP Garage at Guys Cliffe.

It also prevents him from entering any shop in Warwickshire with a face covering, mask, or hood, or carrying any bag or box not purchased in the shop.

All 15 thefts took place between 13 July and 22 September 2026.

Twelve of the offences were at a petrol station in Guys Cliffe, one was at a supermarket in Shires Retail Park, and the other two were at supermarkets in Warwick – one on Emscote Road, and the other on Coten End.

Investigating officer PC Latham said “The targeting of supermarkets and other shops in Warwickshire by thieves isn’t something that we take lightly.

“The use of Criminal Behaviour Orders, like the one imposed on Williams, allows us to take more robust action going forward to dissuade shoplifters from continuing their behaviour, including prison sentences, fines, and community orders.”

We are looking for witnesses, dashcam, or CCTV footage to help our investigation into a report of a knifepoint robbery in St Johns Court, Warwick (5 October).

At 4:45pm, we received a report that a motorbike rider was approached at the traffic lights by two riders on another motorbike.

After reportedly threatening the rider with a machete and taking his helmet, the two suspects made off.

Our officers are progressing an investigation.

If you saw anything or can help us with our investigation, particularly if you have dashcam footage, contact us on 101 or through our web reporting tool citing Incident 271 of 5 October.
