We had a busy open day yesterday. Just under 90 people were guided through the mill by my wonderful tour guides. Not forgetting my lovely ladies on the till and tea duties, and young Freddie of course! Thanks everyone.
For those who visited yesterday, I really hope you had a wonderful time. We only have two more open days this year!! September the 13th and October 11th.

Today I’ve been muttering about naughty teeth and wedges.
It’s important a miller is familiar with their mill, so they know when something is amiss or not quite right.

This prolonged hot dry summer has dried out the wood, resulting in teeth and wedges coming loose. I spotted two wedges on the east crown wheel going for a wander, and once one wedge loosens, it’s like a domino effect and more will do the same. I’ve also had a wedge fall out the layshaft packing. I heard that and stopped the mill immediately, to check the shaft hadn’t moved and then re wedged it tight again.
I’m looking forward to a little bit more moisture in the air to tighten everything up again. 🌊⚙️🌾
