πŸ’œ CARERS WEEK 2026 πŸ’œ

Have you ever stopped to think about just how many people spend their days caring for a loved one, friend or neighbour?

Across Washington, hundreds of unpaid carers quietly provide support every single day. They help loved ones through illness, disability, ageing and additional needs, often putting someone else’s wellbeing before their own.

Caring can bring moments of joy and fulfilment, but it can also be exhausting, emotional and sometimes isolating. Too often, the incredible work carers do goes unnoticed.

This Carers Week, we simply want to say thank you.

Thank you for the early mornings, the late nights, the appointments, the phone calls, the reassurance, the patience and the endless compassion you show every day.

Your dedication helps people stay independent, connected and cared for. It strengthens families, supports communities and changes lives.

To every unpaid carer in Washington: we see you, we value you, and we appreciate everything you do.

Please join me in recognising and thanking the carers in our community. πŸ’œ

Access for All” is helping hundreds of Sunderland residents experience Radio 1’s Big Weekend β€” something many may never otherwise get the chance to enjoy.

Supported by sponsors including the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, the University of Sunderland, Sunderland College, Gentoo and Big Green Coach, the programme provides free festival tickets, travel and food support for people facing financial or social barriers.

Young people with care experience and families on low incomes are among those benefiting, giving them the chance to enjoy live music, be part of a huge community event and make lasting memories without worrying about costs.

This scheme is about inclusion, confidence and creating opportunities, while also helping people feel more connected to their city and inspired by music, arts and creative careers and as formers Sunderland Labour councillors it’s something we support.

Sponsors will also take part in the three-day One Big Summer launch event in Keel Square from Friday 22 May.
