Northumbria Police have shared another successful off-road bike seizure on Facebook – they really are on a roll when it comes to tackling this issue! 🛞👊

Officers were recently alerted to reports of an off-road bike being ridden recklessly around Concord Front Street.

A short time later, the bike was spotted parked outside a premises on the high street – while the suspect was allegedly inside ordering himself a pasty 🥧🤨

What started as a trip to the sausage roll shop quickly turned into a trip to custody for the 24-year-old man, who has since been charged with careless driving, driving without insurance, and assaulting an emergency worker.

The bike was also seized and removed from the streets 🔐🏍️

What are your thoughts on the crackdown on off-road bikes in our area?

Celebrate this Saturday as Washington Library marks its 50th anniversary 🎉

To commemorate the occasion, a 1970s-themed event will be held, featuring live music, crafts, refreshments, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a touch of retro charm.

Guests are warmly invited to attend, and those who wish are encouraged to embrace the theme—disco attire optional, but very much in the spirit of the celebration 🕺

Join us for a groovy 50th birthday celebration this Saturday 25 April at the Creative Smart City Hub @ Washington Library, starting at 11am. Enjoy a far out performance by the wonderful The Londonderry String Quartet performing 1970s hits. There are craft activities, refreshments, (who wouldn't like to create their own pet rock?) and a display of vintage memorabilia, including themed books and board games!

Gentoo Group have a drop in session tomorrow for people who need support with Universal credits . See their post for more details

If you receive Universal Credit, don’t forget to update your online journal with your new rent amount from 6 April. If you entered your rent amount before 6 April it can mean your figures are wrong and you will need to do this again.

To make it easier, we’ve created a simple step‑by‑step guide showing exactly what to do (see the comments).

If you’d rather talk it through, you can also pop along to one of our drop‑in sessions across the city, we will be happy to help 🧡

Eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted that BBC’s One Show used a photograph of our Church as part of their background last night.

We are pleased to say that we beat them to it. The same image has been used for our April monthly update!

Just a heads up about a planning proposal for the Cross Keys in Washington Village 👇

It’s currently in our ward — but, thanks 😢to boundary changes, 🥲 it’ll be moving to Washington East Ward after election day. (The pub’s not going anywhere, just the lines on the map.)

If you’re curious, all the details are on the council’s planning portal — just search 26/00729/FUL.
