Hambledon Road Resurfacing Complete
The Parish Council is pleased to announce that the resurfacing works on Hambledon Road have now been officially completed. Last week, line marking & adjustments to raised ironworks have been finalised, with all post-completion inspections now successfully concluded.
It is fantastic to see this final section of Hambledon Road completed, complementing the improved route through the village towards Waterlooville & the Newlands boundary.
The Council recognises the significant efforts of the Highways Committee & the Chairman of the Highways Committee, Councillor Martin Clay, had this to say:
"I am delighted that we have been able to achieve this much-needed improvement for Hambledon Road. The road was in urgent need of resurfacing &, following previous site visits where Hampshire Highways advised that works were not required, I was determined to challenge that decision & secure the investment needed.
I would like to thank the Highways Committee & our Clerk, Liz Leeming, for their continued support throughout this campaign. Not only do we now have a much smoother journey through the village, but, more importantly, we have a safer road. Motorists can focus on the road ahead rather than having to navigate around potholes."
Councillor Clay also expressed his thanks to County Councillor Angela Clear for her valued support, as well as the Hampshire Highways team for the excellent standard of work delivered.
As part of the continued commitment to improving local infrastructure, Councillor Clay recently undertook a survey of roads across Denmead & the surrounding area, identifying & reporting several locations requiring attention to Hampshire Highways for further consideration.

Denmead Neighbourhood Plan – Update for the Community

Since July 2026, our consultants, Plan-et, have carried out a detailed review of the work completed so far and the proposed revised Denmead Neighbourhood Plan (DNP). Their review has identified several areas where further work would strengthen the Plan and help ensure it is well prepared for examination. When the Neighbourhood Plan reaches its final stage, the examiner will check that all sites have been considered fairly together with the reasons for choosing or rejecting them. This needs to be clearly demonstrated, otherwise it could cause serious issues. The extra work is proposed to avoid this and give the Plan the best possible chance of success.

Denmead Parish Council has now considered and approved the recommended way forward. In response, the Steering Group will revisit some key parts of the Plan, including its vision and objectives, proposed policies and site selection process. The site selection process will be undertaken afresh to ensure it is robust, transparent and reflects the views and priorities of people across Denmead. The Plan-et "Way Forward" report will shortly be available on the DNP website.

What happens next?

In the coming months, the Steering Group will undertake several activities to help shape the next stage of the Plan:

Call for new sites: inviting landowners to put forward potential sites for consideration.
Community consultation: asking residents what they would like to see in terms of large, medium-sized and small sites, and whether they would prefer new homes to be concentrated on one site or spread across the parish, provided enough suitable sites are available. This exercise was last undertaken in 2013.
Review of site selection criteria: The Steering Group will review how sites are assessed to make sure the process follows current planning rules and takes account of what matters to local people. This will help decide which sites should be put forward for public consultation.

The Steering Group will also provide clear explanations for decisions about which sites are, and are not, taken forward for community consultation. Your views matter. We encourage residents to take part in these activities and help shape a Neighbourhood Plan that reflects Denmead’s priorities and is supported by a robust, open and transparent process.
