Forces United Veterans Together Forces United Veterans Together is the key mission of the Former Players Club cic. A support hub for veterans, those serving, reservists and their families.

Uniting through a shared love of football, sport and community A voice for those serving in the Armed Forces and Veterans in the Watford area and Herts. Bringing together those to whom we owe a debt of gratitude and respect. Supporting local Armed Forces charities - and working nationally to recreate the feeling of team spirit and create opportunities for those who have served on our behalf. Football and forces have much shared spirit.

On the eve of Herts Pride we are so very pleased to announce our recognition by Fighting with Pride as a Veteran support organisation which has attained The Pride in Veterans Standard (PiVS) .

It is extremely important to us as part of the Former Players Club mission to demonstrate being fully inclusive. Heritage with Watford Football Club reflects why we have a commitment to ensure our support is for all. It stands to reason we will be welcoming LGBTQ+ Veterans, serving personnel, and their families.

Fighting With Pride, campaigned for reparations for those impacted by the so-called "gay ban", and estimates there are more than 1,000 "lost" veterans who have yet to come forward for help, with less than six months left to apply. There are fears those who are not open about their sexuality, or are still too ashamed to admit what happened to them, could miss out on up to £70,000 and other support.

The decriminalisation of homosexuality began in the UK in 1967, but a law impacting LGBT service personnel lasted until the year 2000. Those who were gay - or perceived to be gay - often faced intrusive interrogations, being "outed" to friends and family, and the shame of dishonourable discharge.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) says it "deeply regrets" the treatment of LGBT veterans, and is "working hard" to publicise the schemes.

Any veteran-focused organisation should want to ensure it is proactive in making the whole veteran community feel confident in accessing its services and support knowing that when they do, they can be assured they will be treated with dignity, respect and understanding.
