We’re trying to trace several members of the public who bravely assisted during an incident in Watford in the early hours of Saturday (22 August).

Shortly after midnight, several calls were made to police reporting that three teenagers had gotten into difficulty in the River Colne, off Colnebank Drive.

Members of the public were on scene, utilising the life rings situated around the river to try and rescue them.

Officers from the Response team attended to assist with rescue attempts, while colleagues from the fire and ambulance services arrived.

Thankfully, the teenagers were brought to safety a short while later and, although severely shaken, they were unharmed.

Unfortunately, those who assisted had left the scene before officers were able to get their details.

We’re keen to trace them to pass on our sincere thanks for their efforts, which undoubtedly helped to prevent a tragic situation from occurring.

If this was you, or you know who it was, please get in touch by contacting our control room on 101 or via our live chat service at https://orlo.uk/5JW4g

Officers have worked alongside colleagues at Watford Borough Council to take action around the illegal use of fireworks in North Watford.

During the early hours of Friday (21 August), several calls were made to police reporting that fireworks were being set off in the area.

Under Regulation 7 of the Fireworks Regulations 2004, it is illegal to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am (except on specified dates and festivals).

The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) worked with the council to locate an address and identify a suspect.

A Community Resolution was issued, alongside a Community Protection Warning, under the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. If they breach the order, further action will be taken.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Matt Hardy said: “The illegal use of fireworks can have a real impact on residents and is a form of anti-social behaviour we take seriously. Working closely with Watford Borough Council, we acted quickly to identify a suspect and take action. We hope this reassures the community that concerns raised with us will be addressed.”

Six people have been charged following the discovery of stolen vehicles in Bushey.

On Thursday 13 August, officers from the Operational Support Group (OSG) were on patrol when they were alerted to a vehicle of interest travelling into Hertfordshire.

Following a search, they located it parked up outside an industrial site in Pinner Road.

Whilst officers from the Response team were dispatched to assist, a low loader arrived at the location with a stolen Porsche on the back. The driver and a passenger were subsequently arrested.

A further four people were also arrested after being discovered inside a unit nearby, along with a stolen BMW which had been broken down into parts.

The case was passed to colleagues from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Crime Series Investigation Unit (CSIU) to progress.

They worked tirelessly over the next 24 hours, resulting in charges being authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for all six men.

Detective Constable Alicia Vieyra, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is an excellent example of teams from across the constabulary working together quickly and effectively. Officers from the Operational Support Group, Response, CID and CSIU all played a vital role in this investigation, helping to progress enquiries at pace.

“Vehicle crime can have a significant impact on victims, and we remain committed to identifying those suspected of being involved, building the strongest possible case and bringing offenders before the courts.”

The following have been charged with conspiracy to receive stolen goods:
• Diemantis Petkunis, aged 38, of no fixed address.
• Jack Mansfield, aged 30, of Voysey Gardens, Basildon.
• Joshua Spiers, aged 31, of Creasen Butt Close, Heybridge.
• Tomas Bajorinas, aged 37, of Morley Road, Barking.
• Antanas Jansauskas, aged 59, of Tyrone Road, Beckton.
• Aleksejs Rudakovs, aged 41, of no fixed address.

Five of the men have been remanded into custody while Spiers remains on conditional bail. All six are due to appear before St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday 15 September.

🌿 A cannabis factory was discovered at an address in Watford this week.

Acting on intelligence, officers attended a property in Bushey Mill Lane on Wednesday afternoon (19 August) where they discovered more than 240 cannabis plants with an estimated value of around £125,000.

The electrics had also been bypassed, making the property unsafe.

Enquiries are continuing.

Drugs and the violent criminality often associated with their supply can have a huge effect on local communities, making residents feel unsafe. If you suspect drug crime in your neighbourhood, please report it to police. Every report helps us to build up the evidence we need to take action.

👀 Spot the signs of cannabis cultivation:
• A powerful distinctive sweet, sickly aroma
• Frequent visitors throughout the day and night
• Blacked out windows, or vents sealed/blocked to prevent the heat and smell of cannabis from inside the property escaping
• Birds gathering on the roof, particularly in cold weather
• In winter, snow melting unusually quickly on the roof
• High levels of condensation on windows
• Noise from fans
• Large amounts of rubbish, including compost bags
• Electricity meter being tampered with/altered and new cabling, sometimes leading to street lighting.

Four e-scooters were seized during a police operation in this week.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) conducted targeted patrols in the town centre and along St Albans Road on Tuesday (18 August), in response to concerns from members of the public.

E-scooters remain illegal to ride in any public place in Hertfordshire and can only be used on private land with the owner’s permission.

If you are caught riding an e-scooter on a public highway, park, pavement or cycle lane, it could be seized. You can also be reported for driving offences, which could lead to significant penalty points (if you currently hold a driving licence) and a fine.

If you’re letting your child ride an e-scooter in public, you will be the one found responsible and in turn this could affect your own driving licence.

PC Fiona Hitchcock, who coordinated the operation, said: “While some people may believe they are harmless fun, there has been a surge in road traffic collisions involving e-scooters, as well as anti-social behaviour and criminality associated with their use.

“We will continue to take action, to reassure members of the public that we are listening to their concerns.”
