History
In the 2003 local elections the opposition Conservative group scored an outstanding victory in Wellingborough District, gaining 13 seats to secure an 18

-seat majority in the Council Chamber, while in East Northamptonshire the Conservative group increased its majority to 30 seats. In 2005 following on from the local election successes, the Conservatives regained the Parliamentary seat they lost in 1997; Peter Bone secured a 2.9% swing to the Conservatives to win with a majority of 687. In 2007 the Conservatives in East Northamptonshire virtually eradicated opposition in the district when they won all but one of the 40 seats in the council chamber. In Wellingborough, the Conservative majority in the 36-seat chamber increased to 24 winning 30 seats at the same time defeating both the leader of the Labour group and his deputy. In 2009 Wellingborough Conservatives won 4 more seats on Northamptonshire County Council so that all Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire seats on Northamptonshire County Council were held by Conservatives. In 2010 the Conservatives increased their majority in the Parliamentary seat to 11,787 and the national party formed a new government in coalition with the Liberal Democrats. In 2015 the Conservatives once more increase their majority in the Parliamentary seat to 16,397 and the party formed the first Conservative majority government since 1992 with David Cameron as Conservative Prime Minister. We have members serving on all local councils. Please see the Our Councillors pages for details of Our Borough, Our District and Our County Councillors on our website.

Victory in Asia and the Pacific brought the Second World War to an end.
Today, we remember those who fought. Those who endured. And those who never came home.

Victory over Japan on 15 August 1945 brought an end to a conflict that had caused years of immense hardship for servicemen, prisoners of war and civilians.

We honour their courage. We remember their sacrifice. And we remain grateful for the freedoms secured by their service.

We must never forget them, nor those who have served our country since.

Lest we forget.

Having recently come back from a wonderful trip down to Cornwall one thing I was very thankful for coming back to HIGHAM Ferrers Was free parking!!
We might not have much of it, but at least at this stage it’s free.
My five day trip to Cornwall cost me over £60 in parking and that’s with me taking the bus several times. It was almost £5 every time you move the car. And if that wasn’t enough, I went over my parking accidentally by 12 minutes and came home to a lovely fat fine.

Step back in time at Wellingborough Museum!

A town is not just what we build. It is what we inherit and what we leave behind.

Last week, Wellingborough Museum hosted a fascinating Anglo-Saxon event, bringing history to life through traditional crafts, demonstrations and living history.

From Anglo-Saxon beginnings through the medieval town and beyond, the museum tells the story of how Wellingborough has changed, grown and been shaped by generations.

And perhaps history leaves us with a question: what kind of town do we want to leave behind for those who come after us?

Step into Wellingborough’s past at the Museum. If you haven’t visited recently, why not pop in and discover Wellingborough’s story for yourself?

Social housing is desperately scarce, subsidised by the British taxpayer, and once a tenancy is granted it can last a lifetime.

Britain cannot be a cash machine for the whole world.

Our council houses must be for UK nationals only.
