This Friday we find out how Wellington did in the South West in Bloom competition for 2026 🌷

Judging took place over two days in July - so you can imagine how the anticipation has built since then!

As well as being judged overall as a town, different community-managed spaces were evaluated, including the Basins, Fox's Field, Longacre, Swains Lane, and many more.

Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞

The autumn colours in Wellington Park are looking absolutely stunning!

Thank you Alan from the Open Spaces Team for capturing our park in the morning light ☀️🍂

Planting in Wellington Park for the autumn/winter has been completed, though you may notice that the four beds surrounding the fountain have been left empty. They will stay this way through until the summer as our team are dealing with an unwanted plant - oxalis - growing in these beds. To properly get rid of it they will need to sift the soil which, as you can imagine, is a time-consuming process that would affect anything planted here.

All other beds in the park are planted with a variety of winter colour and in spring we will see hyacinths and tulips springing up.

Thank you to Riverside.plant.nurseries and Lubbe Lisse for supplying our bulbs.

A note for residents of Oakfield Park, Hoyles Road, and Burrough Way:

Today we have had more soil delivered to these locations to enable us to build the bunds that will in future prevent unauthorised encampments. Our team will be back to these areas on Monday to resume this work. In the meantime please leave the soil as it has been delivered. We appreciate it is not looking very pretty there at the moment, but once the bunds are built and seeded with grass they will look much better!
