Somerset deserves better than the same old parties blaming each other.

The Government issuing Somerset Council with a final warning is a damning indictment of the Liberal Democrat administration. Years of financial mismanagement, spiralling costs, rising council tax and declining services have left taxpayers footing the bill.

But let's not pretend the Conservatives are innocent. They had years to reform local government and tackle waste, yet many of the problems we see today were allowed to grow under their watch. Now they're acting as though they've just discovered the mess.

Reform Wells and Mendip Hills won't accept this cycle of failure.

We believe taxpayers' money should be spent on frontline services, not wasted on bureaucracy, excessive consultancy fees, expensive agency staff or poor financial decisions.

Somerset residents deserve:

• Proper financial discipline with every pound of spending justified.
• An end to waste and unnecessary bureaucracy.
• Better value for taxpayers, with money focused on roads, social care, local services and our communities.
• Greater transparency and accountability so residents know exactly where their money is going.

The Liberal Democrats have failed Somerset.

The Conservatives had their chance and failed to fix the system.

It's time for a real alternative.

Vote Reform UK if you want competent financial management, lower waste, and a council that puts Somerset residents before political excuses.

They called it Tory "vanity projects." The irony.
They have had 4 years of Liberal Democrat control.
We are now more in debt than we ever have been before.

Both the Tories and Liberal Democrats have let Somerset down.

Somerset Council seems more interested in promoting Refugee Week than fixing potholes, tackling SEND failures, supporting local taxpayers or getting its finances under control.
Residents expect the Council to focus on core services first. Somerset taxpayers deserve answers on how much this programme costs and why it is being prioritised during a period of financial pressure.
The Council's first responsibility should always be to the people of Somerset.

Across Somerset, communities are coming together to celebrate the theme of ‘Courage’ for (15–21 June), recognising the contributions, creativity and resilience of people seeking sanctuary.

Throughout the week, our Displaced People Service will be at venues across the county to talk about the support available to refugees and people seeking asylum in Somerset.

The first event takes place on Monday 15 June at Taunton Library. Come along if you’re interested in finding out more.
