There is an elected Chair and Vice Chair who usually serve a two year term.The Council is responsible for delivering some services not provided by Powys County Council. These currently include the running of Erw Ddwr Cemetery, Glanyrafon Play Area, Deri Woods and The Chapel of Rest. Grass cutting and some maintanance services for the town are also the repsonsibility of the Council. Much of the bud

get for providing services is raised through the Precept element of the Council Tax. Some grants are also given by Powys County Council. The members of the Town Council also act as Charity Commission custodians of Mountfield, Deri Woods and Glanyrafon Play Area. The position of Town Councillor is voluntary. Councillors give their time and expertise for free. The Town Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer is a salaried part time position currently 50 hours a month. Llanfair Caereinion Town Council have a full meeting usually on the fourth Monday of each month (except August). Meetings take place in The Youth Room in The Public Institute at 7.30pm. Agendas and minutes will be available on this website but can also be viewed in the Library and in the notice board outside the Public Insitute. The AGM takes place before the meeting in May at 7.00pm.

Important Notice – Goat Field Entrance Improvement Works

Improvement works at the High Street entrance to Goat Field will be taking place over the next two weeks, starting Thursday, 6 August 2026.

During this period, there will be times when access to the woods will not be possible while the works are carried out.

The improvements include:

Levelling and resurfacing paths
Installation of new entrance gates

Llanfair Caereinion Town Council – Casual Vacancy
Formal notice regarding the election for the vacant seat on Llanfair Caereinion Town Council has been published on the Council's website at www.llanfairtowncouncil.gov.uk.
If 10 electors from Llanfair Caereinion who are registered on the electoral roll submit a request for an election, in accordance with the published notice, an election will be held.

The deadline for receipt of requests signed by 10 registered electors calling for an election is Monday, 13 July 2026.

Llanfair Caereinion Town Council
Someone has allowed their dog to foul the footpath in the High Street along the churchyard wall. It is two different dogs and the dogs are of a reasonable size. Another has picked up their dog mess, put it in a bag and thrown it into the churchyard.
Please can I ask that all who have dogs take responsibility for them and clear up. It is not only unsociable it is not healthy.
