Yesterday, WHBC's leaders voted to scrap the idea of converting Panshanger Golf Course into 500 homes and a leisure centre.

If the plan had gone through, it would have meant that there'd be no need for any housing developments around Singlers Marsh.

Welwyn's residents would clearly have benefited from having access to a nearby leisure centre, including (finally) a swimming pool.

WPAG was invited to campaign for the Panshanger development, but we felt it would be wrong to trade their green space for ours.

WHBC's consultation about Panshanger Golf Course had a 50:50 split between supporters and opponents. WHBC's leadership felt they should listen to residents on this important development issue, so they abandoned the proposal.

We welcome that WHBC's leaders finally see the value of listening to local communities.

We hope they will apply this consistently from now on, bearing in mind that the support around Welwyn for keeping Singlers Marsh undeveloped is provably far stronger than the opposition to the Panshanger development.

One of the projects supported by the Neighbourhood Plan is to make Singlers Marsh into a Village Green.

Please vote for the Neighbourhood Plan in the referendum on Thursday 7th May.
