A Human Jukebox

A Human Jukebox Arts Installation This weekend was also the first anniversary of the club, and we were planning a series of concerts on the Sunday. Wildlife Trust.

The weekend of 19th/20th May 2012 was the Lady Bay Arts Festival, and the Poppy Folk Club were asked if we would like to participate in some way within this event. For the Saturday, we came up with the idea for an arts installation called: A Human Jukebox. Local artist Rod Bailey designed and constructed the jukebox for us. The idea was that each performer would write out a list of songs or tunes

that they could perform, and give each one a number. Visitors to the festival then put a coin in a slot and chose a number. The person inside the jukebox then performed that song.
£70 was collected on the day for The Notts. If you are interested in having the jukebox at your event, or would like more information about The Poppy Folk Club, please email [email protected].

The jukebox is looking for a new home, as the garage where it is currently stored is not going to be available for much longer.
Ideally would be somewhere in Lady Bay.
If anyone has a garage, a large shed that isn't damp, or somewhere else suitable, please get in touch.
The side supports are removable, the main structure is about 7' tall and about 4-5' wide.

Saturday and Sunday 16th & 17th May, The Poppy Folk Club will be taking our very own arts installation 'A Human Jukebox' to the Lady Bay Arts Festival. Just like a normal jukebox you choose the song you would like from the list and put your coin in the slot, but instead of getting a recording you will get a live performance from one of the club regular singers. The jukebox will be in action all afternoon in the garden at 131 Holme Road with a final appearance on Saturday at about 4 o'clock from local group The Strawberry Jammers. Sunday afternoon will end with a short appearance from Cupola:Ward, who are also the booked guest artist for the evening concert at The Poppy and Pint later. Entry to the Arts Festival is only £3 giving access to various venues around Lady Bay. Tickets for the concert with Cupola:Ward are £9 contact Julie and Phil 01159812861 or email [email protected].
