🚲⚠️ E-bike owners: are you charging and storing your bike safely? ⚠️🚲

E-bikes have transformed the way many of us travel, but fires involving lithium-ion batteries are becoming increasingly common and the consequences can be devastating.

These fires are - starting without warning, spreading rapidly and producing large amounts of toxic smoke in just a matter of seconds.

If you own an e-bike, help keep yourself and your family safe by following this advice:

πŸ”‹ cheap or counterfeit products or batteries can significantly increase the risk of fire - buy from reputable retailers only

πŸ”Œ only use the charger designed for your battery and never leave batteries charging overnight or when you're asleep

🏠 If possible, store and charge your e-bike in a garage, shed or other suitable area away from your main living space. Avoid charging bikes in hallways, stairways or near doors where they could block your escape if a fire starts.

πŸ› οΈ Never modify, tamper with or attempt to repair batteries yourself. Altering batteries or fitting incompatible parts can make them unstable and dangerous.

Please, share this advice with bike users and keep yourself safe. More safety tips are available here: https://wmfs.link/3Mdrzqn

‼️ Stourbridge Incident Update

Following extensive firefighting efforts, we are pleased to be able to reopen Norton Road in Stourbridge. Due to emergency services remaining in the area, there will be limited access to vehicles. We are asking residents to park further down the road and walk to their premises. If you have any accessibility needs that would make this difficult, please speak to emergency services personnel.

Residents are able to return to their homes if they live on this street – and for the moment, this street only.
West Midlands Fire Service, West Midlands Police and Dudley borough Council are still working extremely hard to extinguish the fire in Stourbridge, keep the area secure and look after the displaced residents respectively.

We would love to be able to welcome all residents back immediately, but our priority now is ensuring the affected area is safe – it would be wrong of us to invite residents back, knowing we may have to evacuate them again in the near future. Therefore we are adopting a phased approach where we can to support residents back to their homes.

We remain enormously grateful for the patience and cooperation of residents – and remain committed to bringing this incident to a safe conclusion as soon as is practical. Thank you.

🚨 Following the dry weather and dangerous conditions, the government has issued an emergency alert regarding wildfire risks. It outlines that you should call 999 when you see a fire. West Midlands Fire Service has been issuing these warnings for weeks - now a government alert has been deemed necessary.

Even after the major incident yesterday, things have not calmed down yet. We remain extremely busy and need your help:
🚫 please, no fires you don't need to have - barbecues, bonfires, setting off fireworks
🚬 dispose of your ci******es correctly - put it out. Right out.
πŸ—‘οΈ take your rubbish home with you, as sunlight refracted through glass bottles can cause fires. Every call we have linked to these incidents could prevent us saving a life. You do not need to call us about bar cues.

Help us to help you. Please.
