E-bikes have transformed the way many of us travel, but fires involving lithium-ion batteries are becoming increasingly common and the consequences can be devastating.
These fires are - starting without warning, spreading rapidly and producing large amounts of toxic smoke in just a matter of seconds.
If you own an e-bike, help keep yourself and your family safe by following this advice:
π cheap or counterfeit products or batteries can significantly increase the risk of fire - buy from reputable retailers only
π only use the charger designed for your battery and never leave batteries charging overnight or when you're asleep
π If possible, store and charge your e-bike in a garage, shed or other suitable area away from your main living space. Avoid charging bikes in hallways, stairways or near doors where they could block your escape if a fire starts.
π οΈ Never modify, tamper with or attempt to repair batteries yourself. Altering batteries or fitting incompatible parts can make them unstable and dangerous.
