Tonbridge will have its own Town Council ✅

Following agreement by Full Council in February 2026, proposals to create a new Tonbridge Town Council have now been agreed.

The new town council will have:

- 18 elected councillors
- Six wards across the town
- First elections in May 2027
- A new “Oast” ward name for the unparished parts of Hildenborough

Work is now progressing to formally establish the council, with a Reorganisation of Community Governance Order prepared which sets out the details and can be viewed online.

Agreement follows two public consultations, with strong support from residents to give Tonbridge a local voice.

We know how much people value Haysden Country Park. That's why we are currently looking at the best way to manage its future and ensure it continues to thrive for generations to come 🌿 💚

Last night the Council approved a recommendation to commission a full cost-benefit analysis into whether transferring management to the Tonbridge and Malling Leisure Trust would benefit the park’s long-term future.

The Leisure Trust is a not-for-profit organisation that already successfully manages sites like Leybourne Lakes Country Park, Poult Wood Golf Course, The Angel Centre, Larkfield Leisure Centre and Tonbridge Swimming Pool. They have expressed an early interest in the scheme.

The proposal comes as the Council considers how best to improve long-term investment for Haysden Country Park as a much-loved public asset. We feel it's prudent to explore things now, with plans for local government reorganisation due to take place in 2028.

So what's happening?

🔍 A full cost-benefit analysis will be carried out to understand the options
🌳 Any future approach would focus on protecting the park’s natural environment, maintaining free access and keeping quality services for everyone
🍁 Groups and organisations that use Haysden Country Park have been contacted
❗ No decision has been made at this stage

Haysden has proudly held Green Flag status for 20 consecutive years and remains a vital space for both wildlife and recreation – something we are committed to preserving.

🎪 Planning to trade at outdoor events this season? 🍔🚚

If you’re starting a mobile food business – whether that’s a street food van, pop-up stall, trailer or gazebo – don’t forget:

✅ All food businesses must be registered with the council’s Food Safety team at least 28 days before trading.

Registration is free and straightforward, and it helps make sure you have the right support and guidance before your first event.
It also gives customers and event organisers confidence that everything is in place behind the scenes.

Not sure if you’re already registered, or just getting started for event season? The team is happy to help 👉 [email protected]

Today the Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Kim Tanner, joined family, friends, MPs and dignitaries to remember Sir John Stanley, who served as MP for Tonbridge and Malling for 41 years.

The memorial service took place at Tonbridge Parish Church.

Sir John’s commitment to public service, local communities and the work of the council left a lasting mark on the borough, and the thousands of residents he represented.

Cllr Tanner said: “Sir John was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about the people of this borough, and that came through in everything he did. It was a privilege to be there today as Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, representing our residents and hearing of the countless ways in which Sir John campaigned and lent his support - from flood protection measures to local heritage and the conservation of Tonbridge Castle.”

Sir John is photographed with the current MP for Tonbridge and Malling, Tom Tugendhat.

A wonderful afternoon for the Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling celebrating 100 years of sport, community, tradition and friendship at Townsend Hook Bowls Club, in Snodland 🎉

It was a real privilege for Cllr Kim Tanner and other dignatries to join club members and the incredible Chelsea Pensioners for a special centenary match.

It was a unique occasion, filled with laughter, camaraderie and sporting spirit — honouring 100 wonderful years of memories while creating new ones together.

Congratulations to everyone at Snodland Townsend Hook Bowls Club for a fabulous day - and the scarlet jackets from for bringing their distinctive splash of colour.

A century on the green — and still rolling strong 💚
