Message from Matt Boughton, Leader of TMBC

At the TMBC Housing and Planning Scrutiny Select Committee meeting of Tuesday 17 March 2026, responses to the Local Plan consultation were discussed.

One of the most interesting responses we received to the consultation was from South East Water, responded by saying they could not accommodate development above what they have already planned for.

This has required us to review how water infrastructure considerations are taken into account when determining planning applications, whilst also accounting for this in preparation of the next stage of the Local Plan.

Thermal Imaging Surveys

West Malling Parish Council now owns a thermal imaging camera. If you would like to find out where your home is losing heat, we can arrange to visit and help you survey your home. The results should tell you what improvements would make the most difference to your thermal efficiency.

If you would like us to arrange a visit to carry out the survey with you, contact the Parish Office, providing contact details including address. We will contact you to arrange a convenient date to do the survey. We can only do this when it's cold outside.

Before the survey, you need to have your heating on for a few hours. You will be visited by two members of the Parish Council who will need access to both the inside and outside of your home. Please note we are not professional surveyors. The photos taken during the survey will be your property and we will email you the key images soon after the survey. We cannot offer financial help for remedial work identified but will seek to signpost you towards any government or other grants.

Sorry, but due to limited resources, only properties within the parish can be surveyed.

West Malling Parish Council’s Christmas Window Competition… The Results!

Many congratulations to all shops, it was an excellent year with many super windows which made judging particularly difficult.

But the winner of the large window goes to … Down Swan Street! We thought the gold curtains set off the display nicely and found it warm and enticing.

The winner of the small window went to… Varoshe! As we were judging a little lad shot up to the window to look at the train. We loved that the wagon was full of tiny baubles. The window was full of Christmas magic.

Other windows that were close contenders were Coco & Bloom for their Narnia theme we particularly liked the beaver lodge. Santa’s boots in The Therapy Rooms were great. The Bush Barbers made us laugh with the beard and the bah humbug. The Heart of Kent Hospice Shop for their cheerful and clever display. West Malling Flowers had a stunning centrepiece. We thought the library created a very attractive display with all the appropriate books. SB Hair had a silver and white display featuring snowflakes with little scissors. Lastly, St Leonards was tastefully decorated with 2 real trees side by side and attractive garlands on every window.

West Malling Parish Council will be holding a public drop in session on Sunday 23rd November 12:45-2:45 at West Malling Primary School, Norman Road.

At this session, we will be exhibiting the plans that directly impact West Malling; we will be seeking feedback from residents as well as advising on how to make a formal response. It is hoped that Cllr Matt Boughton, Leader of TMBC will be able to attend the session.

At this session, we will be exhibiting the plans that directly impact West Malling; we will be seeking feedback from residents as well as advising on how to make a formal response. It is hoped that Cllr Matt Boughton, Leader of TMBC will be able to attend the session.
