STATEMENT

It is with great sorrow that the Town Council has learned of the serious incident off West Mersea Esplanade yesterday evening, in which a teenage girl and a woman in her forties tragically lost their lives. Another individual was airlifted to hospital and remains in a critical condition, and two others were taken to hospital by road with non-life-threatening injuries.

On behalf of the whole community, the Town Council extends its sincere condolences to the families and friends of those affected by this devastating event.

We understand that a number of local people were on the scene very quickly and assisted in the rescue efforts. All emergency services responded, including the RNLI, HM Coastguard, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, Air Ambulance teams and Essex Police. The Council expresses its gratitude to everyone who assisted during this traumatic incident.

Monkey Beach hazard

The Crown Estate has received a report that a warning triangle on one of the hazard markers is missing. The Crown Estate will be making arrangements for a replacement triangle to be made.

This office has been alerted to a trader operating in West Mersea. Leaflet and vehicle registration number below.

Please be aware and look out for any elderly or vulnerable residents, we received feedback that the men are rude and insistent. Photos of slipped roofing tiles have been shown to residents, and the offer of doing the job for £XX amount of pounds. Please be vigilant.
